Minutes of Callan Electoral Area Meeting

held in The Master’s House, Callan Area Office, Prologue, Callan, on Wednesday. 16th.November 2005 at10.45 a.m.

Present: Cllr. Tom Maher, Cllr. Matt Doran, Cllr. Wm. Ireland

Chairperson:Cllr. T. Maher.

Vote of Sympathy was extended to Cllr. Maher by Cllrs. Doran & Ireland & staff members on the death of his mother.

Also to the family of Michael Saunders, Mantingstown, Coolagh,Callan.

A minutes silence was observed as a mark of respect to both families.

Cllr. Maher opened the meeting and proceeded with the Agenda as laid out.

Item 2: Matters Arising –

General discussion.

Item 3:Roads: 2006 – 2008 Multi-Annual Road Works Restoration Programme

Members unanimously agreed the scheme for the Callan Area.

Item 4:Recreational Funds Policy

Members unanimously agreed policy subject to cognisance being taken of the special needs of the Callan Area.

Item 5:Notice of Motion

“That Callan Electoral Area Members approve the request from the Garda Siochana, Callan for the provision of Double Yellow Lines adjacent to the Car-Park wall on Chapel Lane, Callan.”

Members unanimously agreed the notice of motion for forwarding on to the main council meeting.

Item 6: Plan for Fair Green, Callan.

Following agreement, Mr. J. Dempsey informed the meeting that the proposals for Fair Green will be put on publicdisplay, following notice in local press, within the next two weeks.

Item 7:A.O.B:

Mr. Graham reminded members to submit their proposals for revision of Speed Limits as soon as possible for inclusion in the next Speed Limit Review .

  1. The need for a Speed Limit on the Danesfort Road hill in Bennettsbridge was highlighted by Cllr. W. IrelandCllr. T. Maher.
  1. Cllr. Doran again stressed the need for speed limits in Ennisnag & Killamery and that his previous requests for public lighting at these locations be actively pursued with the NRA.

Resulting from item 3 of the Expanded Area Meeting held prior to the Callan Electoral Area Meeting, it was agreed to add to future agenda a specific item for dealing with matters raised by the Voluntary Form members.

Deputation from Kells N S Board & Parents Association

Cllr. Maher welcomed the Deputation comprising Ms. Tanya Thomas,

Mr. Peter Thomson and Mr. Mark Wall and invited Mr. Thomson to address the meeting.

Mr. Thomson thanked the members & staff for receiving the deputation at short notice and made his presentation.

The main areas for attention were:

Road safety in relation to school and provision of footpath..

Provision of temporary green area/site for future school on the Haggard Road, Kells.

Ms. Tanya Thomas and Mark Wall also addressed the meeting outlining their concerns as parents with children attending the school. They also highlighted the need for the provision of a play area/playing field.

Members assured the Deputation of their support & commitment on these issues.

As agreed earlier this year, the School Board should now proceed to set-back the school wall to accommodate the requested foot-path.

Mr. Graham is to arrange for the construction of the footpath & appropriate Road Safety Markingswhen this work is done and to schedule works to coincide with school holidays.

Deputation thanked the members and withdrew.

Next Meeting to be scheduled in the New Year to tie in with Road Work Scheme & main meeting of Council.
