Job title: School and Family liaison Officer
Responsible to:Chief Executive
Working relationships: CE, Education Coordinator, Finance & Programme officer, Leadership Instructors and Volunteers
Purpose of role: Manage the marketing function of SYLA. Lead on relations and coordination of services to schools, parents and external clients. Support the application and reporting to key grant bodies.
Key Tasks: Parent engagement, stakeholder relations, recruitment administration, marketing& evaluation administration.
Specific Duties:
- Act as first point of contact for schools and other partnership agencies referring boys and lead on external presentations they may request
- Manage the recruitment process of new boys, working with the Leadership Instructors and Education coordinator in assessments of individual boys
- Manage beneficiary data entry on SYLA database, working with volunteers as appropriate
- Coordinate and schedule activities to engage and develop parents/guardians and their steering group and support their contribution to SYLA services
- Obtain regular progress reports from partnering schools
- Coordinate SYLA’s progress and wellbeing measures for the boys.
- Deputize as Safeguarding officer ensuring the policy is up to date and being adhered to and that DBS check are up to date for all relevant staff
- Providing general administrative support across SYLA
- To undertake other activities as directed by the Chief Executive.
Personal qualities required:An interest in and good knowledge of issues faced by black and mixed race families. You will need awareness and understanding of – or a willingness to train in - potential risks that might affect the young boys in these families.
Essential qualities and experience:
- Graduate level qualification or equivalent related experience
- Good verbal, written and presentation skills
- Hard working and confident in dealing with adults and young people
- Experience working with parents or proven ability to lead workshops
- Experience within a school setting or corresponding with school personnel
- Ability to plan one’s time well, use initiative and work within a small team
- Proficient in office IT systems including Microsoft Word,Access and Excel. Able to use spread sheets to monitor and present information
Desirable qualities and experience:
- Knowledge of youth services and activity structures for young people, particularly in London.
- Experience of working with quality systems or frameworks
- DBS checked(will be required if not already in place)
Conditions of service:You will be on the company PAYE scheme
Salary/pay scale:£22,000 pa (pro rata 20 hours per week)
Location:Hollington Youth Centre, 56-60 Comber Grove, London SE5 OLD. Travel within the vicinity to attend meetings will be required.
Hours of work:Mon – Thursbetween hours 10.00am – 3.00pm. You may have to attend occasional functions outside this time frame, including Saturday.
Leave:24 days (pro-rata 20 hours per week) plus public holidays
Notice period:1 Month
Probationary period:6 months during which period the post holder will be required to submit work plans and indicate how these will be implemented.
