Academic Senate strongly encourages all faculty to participate in division-level discussions regarding the additional sections to be supported through Measure G funds. The instructional deans will use these discussions as they finalize recommendations to the VPI regarding Fall 2011 course offerings. Division discussions will need to be completed by the end of this semester because Instructional Dean’s will be building the FALL 2011 schedule in early January.

Academic Senate began discussion in late October of what our vision might be of a comprehensive institution. Discussion are staying within the academic and professional matters as defined in Title 5, Section 53200, referred to as the “10 +1”.Please reviewthe approved minutes posted at the senate website bring yourself up to date of the discussions taken place.

To help facilitate division discussions, Academic Senate will provide guidance through Governing Council discussions and access to resources through the Senate’s website.

Your governing council representative have been asked to convey to the “INSTRUCTIONAL ADMINISTRATORS’ GUIDELINES FOR ADDING SECTIONS” developed and agreed to by the Instructional Administrators. The guidelines are as follows and are not in priority order:

  1. SB 1440 (State Mandated - The Student Transfer Achievement Reform (STAR) Act. - Required to be in effect FALL 2011)
  2. Distance Education (Board Mandated, ACCJC)
  3. Talking Points (IPC Ad-Hoc)
  4. 21st-Century Relevance
  5. Licensing and Other Regulatory Requirements
  6. Coastside - (Board Mandated)

In addition, please include the institutional priorities XXX

Academic Senate will not make recommendations to Cabinet regarding programs or courses to be offered through Measure G funds. We believe the faculty are experts of their programs and expect collegial participation among all programs within your division.

Many of you will ask where does the Budget Reduction of 09/10 fit into Measure G.

As your senate president the Budget Reductions (09/10) needs to be addressed separately from Measure G funding. I have been in discussion with Cabinet this semesterto move this to a college-wide discussion in the context of the college vision and funding resources . This issue will be a priority in the Spring XXXX

I urge you to be involved in division discussions to ensure faculty input and transparency in the allocation of Measure G funds.

Regards,

Diana
