C.W. Young Scholarship Fund
The Fund
1. The C.W. Young Scholarship Fund was established to recognise the services given by Mr Charles William Young (who died in 1963) to the education of pharmaceutical chemists. C W Young was a former head of the Department of Pharmacy in Belfast College of Technology from 1929 until 1960, which subsequently transferred to Queens University Belfast.
2.The income is available for the advancement and encouragement of pharmaceutical education for the public benefit.
3.Distribution of income from the fund is at the discretion of theTrustees of the CW Young Fund (elected members of the Pharmacy Forum Board).
4.Application for support from the Fund is restricted to members, associates and students of the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland.
5.Support from the fund takes the form of a fixed allowance, research grant or scholarships related to work within the School of Pharmacy, Queen’s University Belfast(previously the Pharmacy Department, Belfast College of Technology).
6. The Trustees do not intend, by any grant from them, to augment a recipient’s income or otherwise to supplement a recipient’s income, save in so far as such augmenting or supplementing may be incidental to the educational benefit received.
7. The Trustees will dispose of no more £5,000 in any one year from the fund. No individual applicant can be funded to a total value exceeding £10,000 over a maximum of 3 academic years.
Application for supportends 10th March 2017
1. Applications for receipt of funding are sought this year,via the Pharmacy Forum website and School of Pharmacy QUB promotion,for distribution after theApril meeting of the Pharmacy Forum Board.
2. An application form is available from the Pharmacy Forum websiteand all applications must be made using this official form (see attached).All applications must be received by5pm,10March 2017.
3. Each application will be considered by the Education and Research Committee of the Pharmacy Forum Boardor equivalent committee, who will make a recommendation to the Trustees regarding the award (or not) of the funding requested. (The Trustees reserve the power to reduce the amount of the award from that requested; TheTrustees decision is final and there is no right of appeal).
4. Applicants will be given feedback on the outcome of their applications by the end of May2017.
5. The Trustees will take steps to ensure that the funds are being used for the purpose requested through the receipt of reports on the usage of the funds. The frequency of such reports will be project specific. Details of the reporting requirements (and accounting details as appropriate) will form an integral part of the grant letter for successful applications.
6. The Pharmacy Forum NI reserve the right to publish the details of any bursary awarded and alsoutilise and publish the outcomes from the research when completed.
7. Priority will be given to any research identified by the Pharmacy Forum as relevant to its work. For the Year 2016/17 the Pharmacy Forum NI would welcome applicationsfor research funding that have outcomes based around pharmacy practice.
