Harlem Renaissance Poetry Presentation

As we study the Harlem Renaissance, you will be analyzing poetry and gathering information about the authors and artists of this vibrant cultural movement. With a partner you will create a presentation to teach the class about your poem, the author, and the connections between the poetry, music, and art of The Harlem Renaissance.
FIRST – Choose a poet.You will sign up for a poet from a provided list and then research to find a poem by that poet.No two pairs may analyze the same poem
SECOND – Analyze. With your partner analyze your selected poem by using the TP-CASTT method.
THIRD – Research. Find out information about the author’s life and work. Look for autobiographical facts, info on their career, and critiques/reviews of their work.Be sure to record ALL bibliographic information for every source. A works cited page in MLA format is required!
FOURTH – Connect. Continue your research to find a painting or song from the Harlem Renaissance that relates thematically to your poem.
FIFTH – Prepare a Prezi or PowerPoint presentation. You are required to make a 5-minute presentation on your poem, author, and song or painting. The presentation must include:
Poem – Include the text of your poem with the author’s name.5 points
Analysis of poem – Include the TP-CASTT analysis of your selected poem.40 points
Biographical facts – include where the author grew up, family life, education, how they “got started”, etc.How did the author fit into the period overall? Who influenced them? How did they reflect/affect the times?10 points
General Career facts – Major works/performances. Information about their style, what the public thought, etc.10 points
One related material – Include one song or paintingthematically related to your poem. Include the visual or audio in your presentation. You must also include the author/artist, andgive some background on the piece. Explain the connection between the poem and your related material.20 points
A bibliography – including ALL sources (including websites and images!) in MLA FORMAT to show where you got your information.15 points
NOTE: Your presentation should be in bullet point format. Do NOT just cut and paste from websites, but cut information down to manageable phrases for your presentation. It is your job to expand on this information using your own notes during your presentation.
