POSITION DESCRIPTION

COMPOSTING SITE ATTENDANT

GENERAL DEFINITION

The Composting Site Attendant is a part-time, seasonal position with the Department of Administration and works in conjunction with the Department of Public Works. The Composting Site Attendant is responsible for the security and operation of the Kingston Composting Site and to deliver quality service to the Kingston Township residents and their third party representatives.

Essential Job Functions
Main Responsibilities

·  Responsible for arriving at work every scheduled day, on time with a neat and clean appearance.

·  Greet and assist residents, if needed, in a courteous manner.

·  Ability to control a situation with a commanding presence.

·  Control and monitor all permitted traffic entering and exiting the site.

·  Responsible to open and close site, includes locking gate.

·  Manually complete a daily log of traffic and permits.

·  Report any observed or suspected violations of the composting site, safety hazards or any unusual occurrences to the appropriate department head or police department.

·  Maintains communication with the Township Manager, Department Heads, Police Department, and the Dallas Area Municipal Authority.

·  Performs responsibilities as required or assigned by the Township Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and /or ability required.

Education / Experience Required: High School education or equivalent.

Availability to Work: The composting site will be open weekends in April (10:00 am to 4:00 pm); beginning last full week of April until the end of October the site will be open seven (7) days a week (10:00 am to 7:00 pm - weekdays; 10:00 am to 4:00 pm –

weekends) and the first two (2) weekends in November (10:00 am to 4:00 pm). The successful applicants must be available to work at least 25 hours per week on a varying schedule as set by the Township Manager.

Days and times are subject to change due to weather events and resident’s needs.

Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instruction, short correspondence and memos, and ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to residents, other employees and department heads.

Appearance: Attendant will be required to maintain a neat and clean appearance. The Township will provide Kingston Township t-shirts and sweat shirts. Attendant will wear dark wash denim or Dickie type work trousers.

Physical Demands: The attendant is required to stand for extended periods of time outside in varying weather conditions (cold, rainy, harsh, hot, and humid). The attendant is required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The attendant may be required to physically maneuver up to 50 pounds without assistance.

Other:

·  Must be at least 18 years old.

·  Must be a U.S. Citizen

·  Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Drivers License

·  Prior experience in some form of security work preferred

·  Demonstrated ability to interact cordially and communicate with the public

·  Be able to operate radio or telephone equipment

·  Must be able to pass a drug and alcohol test with negative results

·  Must submit to a background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment verifications, and Department of Motor Vehicles and credit checks

·  Kingston Township residency required within thirty-six (36) months of hire.
