Applications to full-time BA, BSc and BEng, and HND courses should be made through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service for the UK (UCAS).

Do not use this form for applications to Postgraduate Teacher Training courses ie PGCEs. For teacher training courses in England and Wales apply through Graduate Teacher Training Registry (GTTR) PO Box 239, Cheltenham, Gloucester GL50 3SL. For Scotland apply through TEACH, PO Box 165, EdinburghEH8 8AT.

To be considered for a taught course you must send us a completed application form.

For a researchplace you must also submit an outline research proposal (use Section 10 of the Application form)

If your education has so far been undertaken outside the UK, you must provide transcripts of your studies, and copies of certificates or other official documents confirming your academic qualifications (including English language ability). You need not send original documents.

Please ensure your application form is fully completed and any relevant documentation is enclosed. N.B Applications without the supporting documentation will not be accepted.

Research Programmes:
Proposed title / subject(s): Please specify the area in which you would like to undertake a research degree. Main research themes are listed in the Index of Research Themessection of the Career Development Prospectus and page 43 of the postgraduate brochure. Other research topics are possible – seek advice from the relevant contact. Likewise contact us if you are unsure which level of research award to aim for.
Mode of study: If you wish to undertake a research degree as a distance learning/split PhD* you should include in Section: 9 (Further information in support of application) details of your proposed research supervision arrangements and arrangements for access to library / other resources needed for your research.
Proposed Start date: Research degree programmes may start at any time of the year but you should talk to us first as you may need to consider the timing of induction courses and any research methods courses you may need.

6English language ability

Applicants whose first language is not English and whose undergraduate study was not conducted in English must be able to demonstrate English language proficiency. Suitable qualifications include:
Teaching of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - Score of 550/213 or above
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - Score of 7 or above
Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) - Pass

You should also consult individual course information for any specific or additional requirements. If you don't currently have that information then use the course index on page 33 of the Postgraduate Brochure to get the relevant contact details to request that information.
Your application will be considered on the basis of your education, work and other relevant experience. You should therefore give full and accurate details of all your relevant previous experience in these sections.

12Referees

It is your responsibility to request references which should be provided on the relevantform (NOTE: MSc please send letters of support – see Section 12, Page 5 of application form). The University will not request these on your behalf.

13Criminal convictions

Please declare whether you have any criminal convictions. The University may ask you to provide additional information about the nature of your convictions. Provision of this information will not affect the academic consideration of your application.

14Declaration

Any offer of a place to study is subject to the acceptance by you of the University’s Terms and Conditions. A copy of them is contained within this information package; and included in the Reference section of the Career Development Prospectus. obtaining academic references to support your application

NOTE: This section not applicable to MSc in Paediatric Neurodisability - Applicants for this course are required to provide supporting letters – see Section 12, Page 5 of the application form for full details

References are a statement about your suitability to undertake the course or programme which you are applying for. You are required to nominate two referees who can provide such a statement. Referees should normally be someone who has recently taught you, although if you have extensive work experience which is relevant to the programme, you may wish to nominate a person with knowledge of your employment.

You are responsible for:

Approaching referees and requesting references;

Giving each referee a copy of the blank reference form;

Giving referees details of the programme for which you are applying;

Notifying referees of deadline and where to return completed forms.

The reference form and instructions are available in Word 6 format and can be downloaded from the World Wide Web from A signed paper copy should be submitted – references submitted by email cannot be accepted.
