ABSTRACT

On the first two weeks of the senior design class, we ordered all the components necessary to create the Agricultural Land Detector senior design project. Here we will list all the components that will be used and go over their specifications and what they are used for. For the brain of the system, we will be using the Arduino Uno, which will allow for the control and communication of the sensors to the display. We will be using a pack of three breadboards in conjunction with wires to create the connections. The temperature/humidity sensor (HDC1080) has a temperature range of -40 to +125 degrees Celsius. The humidity range is from 0% RH to 100% RH. The PH sensor (SEN0161) can operate on temperatures ranging from 0 to +60 degrees Celsius. The Nitrate sensor (NO3-11) has a nitrate measurement range from 6 to 9900 mg/L. The pressure sensor (LPS25HBTR) has a PSI range of 3.77 PSI – 18.27 PSI. The phosphate sensor (PV4406) has an excitation/emission reading of 430/450 nm. The team will now focus on designing the circuit and getting the sensors connected to the Arduino. Since there is a mixture of analog and digital sensors, the team will focus on first connecting and reading the digital components and then the analog.

Please write a paragraph detailing: Project status.

The team created a project overview of all the necessary components that must be orderedto begin the process of building the Agricultural Land Detector on August 20, 2018. The overview obtainedthe datasheets of all the sensors that will be used as well as links were the components will be ordered from. Due to a lack of communication, the items were not ordered until August 27, 2018. The components arrived today, September 5, 2018, and the team will initiate the building process right away. We will begin by creating a circuit design that is most suitable for acquiring the highest accurate measurement from the sensors that will be used.

Please write a paragraph detailing: Expectation of project completion by the demonstration date.

Although there was a week of waiting for the components, the team is still confident that the Agricultural Land Detector will be completed by the demonstration date. We now have most of the materials and the team also created a schedule with the mentor to meet every week and share our progress with him. These meetings will also provide substantial benefits for the team because we can get insight from the mentor whenever the team is struggling with anything in particular and save the team a lot of time. For the demonstration date, the Agricultural Land Detector will be able gather temperature, humidity, pressure, pH, nitride and phosphate data efficiently and display it in a monitor or application.

Please write a paragraph detailing: What are your main worries at this time?

When the semester started, the team knew that an order must be placed right away in order to obtain all the sensors and required components on time. When the team submitted the document indicating all the components that must be bought to our mentor, we assumed that the order will be placed the same day. The following week we went to see the mentor and asked about the components and he told us the components haven’t been ordered but he will ordered them right away. This is when the team started to worry. However, we now have most of our components, so the team can now begin on getting together and working on this project. The phosphate, nitride and pH sensors are the only sensors missing, but they should be arriving next week by September 10, 2018. This doesn’t worry the team much because we will be working on the other sensors while the phosphate, nitride and pressure sensor arrive.
