April 27, 2011
Greetings!
Thank you for your interest in becoming a 2011 Justice Summer Intern at the Beloved Community Center in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Beloved Community center is a local grass roots organization that strives to uplift and create Dr. Martin Lurther King Jr.’s vision of a “Beloved Community.” Since our official founding in 1991 the Beloved Community Center has been a leader in cutting edge social justice work in Greensboro and around the nation. The BCC has participated and played a leader role in a variety of struggles since the early 1990’s, including the landmark Kmart Struggle for workers rights, the Free Kwame Cannon Campaign for justice in the courts and criminal justice system, and the struggle for indigent health care. Recently, the BCC has been a leading force in building unity between African American and Latino communites, working with Farm Laborers, fighting for health and environmental justice and against the re-opening of the White Street Landfill, pressing for professionalism and accountability within the Greensboro Police Department, providing various services for our homeless neighbors, and playing a key role in bringing the first Truth and Reconcilliation process to the United States.
We are very excited to have another class of Greensboro Justice Summer Interns in 2011. This ten week paid internship will invite ten interns from diverse backgrounds and experiences to continue to build community and fight for justice and equality in Greensboro and beyond. We invite all to apply who are interested in social justice, community building, and improving Greensboro.
