Job Description for Community Garden Support Worker

To support two day long sessions with up to 20 disadvantaged adults throughout the year

·  To support the Community Garden Co-ordinator in all their work, including cover for the co-ordinator and overseeing the project when they are off-site

·  To initiate and maintain small projects which produce materials for creative work

·  To develop and run small creative workshops with participants to produce artefacts and produce which can be sold to the public

·  Assist with teams of corporate volunteers working in the Community Garden

·  To contribute to monitoring activities and project evaluation with the evaluator, project manager and co-ordinator.

·  To be available on a Wednesday and a Friday, the days when the project is operational

Essential attributes skills and experience:

·  Proven gardening and food growing skills and experience

·  Excellent people skills

·  The ability to work unsupervised

·  The ability to plan and lead sessions

·  Experience of working with volunteers

·  Experience of working with individuals and groups

·  Ability to relate to people who have experienced homelessness, mental or physical health problems, addiction, long term unemployment, etc.

·  Ability to provide individuals with appropriate information, practical help and emotional supporting a sensitive and non-judgemental and personable manner.

Project Outcomes:

·  Improved physical and mental health of disadvantaged adults through engagement with horticulture; land management and creative activities with natural materials

·  Improved self-confidence; self-esteem, and life skills of disadvantaged adults through access to training and activities leading to better chances in life

·  Improved social skills and reduced isolation of disadvantaged adults enabling them to play a more active role in their geographical communities

·  Disadvantaged adults become healthier and more active through outdoor physical activity and an awareness of growing food and how to eat healthily
