AP ENGLISH 3
LANGUAGE AND COMPOSITION
MRS. SO HEE TAN—WALNUT HIGH SCHOOL
Course Description:
A course in AP English Language and Composition engages students in becoming skilled readers of PROSE written in a variety of periods, disciplines, and rhetorical contexts. The reading and writing assignments will help students hone their awareness of the interactions among a writer’s purpose, audience expectation and subject, as well as the way generic conventions and the resources of language contribute to effectiveness. As in most first-year college writing courses, English Language and Composition seeks to enable students to read complex texts with understanding and to write prose of sufficient richness and complexity to communicate effectively with mature readers.

Cheating Policy:
Cheating is defined as “any dishonest action used to benefit the individual(s) involved.” This includes copying another student’s work, plagiarism, and violating test conditions, which is defined as “any act that can violate the integrity of the test scene.” Cheating will result in immediate disciplinary action.
Study guides (Sparknotes, Cliffsnotes, Cheat-notes, “I-don’t-want-to-think-for-myself” notes, etc.) are a way to supplement learning, but should NEVER be used as a substitute for a student’s own discovery. Therefore, do not bring these notes to class; do not use these notes on any assignment as if it were your own work.
