Subculture Magazine Headlines
Within cultures you will find a variety of sub cultures. These subcultures share values, norms, and behaviors that are not shared by the entire population. Most subcultures do not reject all of the values and practices of society. Common subcultures are based on age, race, religion, geography, gender, social-class and ethnicity. Military, teachers, police, etc are also examples of subcultures.
Countercultures on the other hand reject a society’s core values, norms, and practices. They replace these with their own set of cultural patterns.
Directions: You are to choose a subculture in the US and create 8-10 headlines that a magazine cover designed specifically for that group would publish. You will only be creating the headlines for the magazine cover for your subculture. These should be catchy, informative and creative headlines that grab the readers’ attention and give a good idea of what the story would be about. Your cover will be graded on the following:
Knowledge of subculture (detailed headlines that show understanding of subcultures)
