Windows Movie Maker Tutorial

Importing Files

·  Once you are in Windows Movie Maker, you can import the videos, pictures, or audio/music that you have saved on your computer.

To import a video:

·  Click on Import video on the left-hand side of the screen.

·  Find the video that you want to use and click it. An image should appear in the Collection.

·  *Note: Windows Movie Maker might split the video if your video is long.

------

·  You can also import videos that you have on a video camera by clicking Capture from video device. (For example if you used a video camera that used tape, you can import the footage from the video camera and use it)

To import a picture:

·  Click on Import pictures on the left-hand side of the screen.

·  Find the image that you want to use and click it. The image should appear in the Collection.

To import audio or music:

·  Click on Import audio or music on the left-hand side of the screen.

·  Find the audio or music that you want to use and click it. An image should appear in the Collection.

Another option to import files from your computer:

·  Go to File, then to Import into Collections, and then find the video, picture, or audio or music that you want.

------

·  Continue to import the videos, pictures, and audio or music that you want in your video to the Collection.

·  *Note: You must have the videos, pictures, or audio or music that you use in your video saved to your computer. If you delete any of the files that you used without saving the video as a wmv, the file will have a red X in its place in both the Collection and timeline/storyboard area.

·  If you just moved the file to another location, then you can restore the files.

·  *Note: You can switch the bottom panel to show either a storyboard of your movie or a timeline of your movie.

------

Once you have some videos, pictures, and audio or music to work with, you can begin your video.

To start your video:

·  Drag a file from the Collection down to the timeline/storyboard.

------

·  *Note: If you put a picture into the time line, you can change how long it appears in the video by hovering you mouse over the edge of the picture and dragging the file to how long you want it to appear in the video.

·  *Note: You can do the same thing if you add a video. The only difference is that you cannot extend video, you can only shorten it. When you shorten it, you cut off the parts of the video.

------

To add audio or music to the video:

·  Drag the audio file from the Collection and drop it into the Audio/Music time line area.

·  *Note: You can shorten the length of the audio/music by hovering you mouse over the edge of the file and dragging it to how long you want. The same thing applies to audio/music as video. You cannot extend video, you can only shorten it. When you shorten it, you cut off the parts of the video.
