SAMPLE DOCUMENT FOR USE BY LIGHTING DESIGNERS AND LIGHTING MAINTENANCE PROFESSIONALS
IT SHOULD BE NUMBERED AND EDITED AS NEEDED
Typical Lighting Retrofit Practices
· Non hi-bay fluorescent lamps will be 4100K in color with a Color Rendering Index (CRI) >80.
· F54T5 49 watt hi-bay lamps will be 5000K in color with a CRI >80.
· Most fluorescent retrofits will use 25 watt F32T8 40K+ hour lamps with a CRI >80 and 95% efficient ballasts with a “normal” ballast factor.
· Most fluorescent retrofits will use 2 lamps. Use “high output” ballasts rather than more than 2 lamps if needed.
· Clear prismatic lensed 4’ long fixtures will have lamp and ballast retrofits and may be delamped to 2 lamps.
· Clear prismatic lensed 2’ long fixtures will be retrofitted with F17T8 lamps and ballasts.
· Abandoned sockets will be filled with silicone.
· Sagging, broken and discolored lenses with be replaced with 0.125” thick clear lenses of equal pattern.
· Louvered fixtures will be gutted and 2 lamp “volumetric” retrofit kits will be installed.
· Bi-Level switched fixtures are not always justified and can often be retrofitted with one ballast and 2 lamps on one switch. Make a recommendation and have the Owner make the decision. Leave second switch leg abandoned in place if only one light level is used.
· Bi-Level switching can be maintained by gutting the fixture and retrofitting with a Lithonia RT5R bi-level with F28T5 lamps.
· If linear fluorescent dimming is needed, retrofit with Lithonia RT5R and Advanced MK VII or Mk X dimming ballast. Line voltage dimming is preferred.
· All dimming must be reviewed by Owner prior to installation.
· 200 watt and higher HID fixtures will be replaced with 49 watt F54T5 fixtures and >93% efficient ballasts.
· Smaller HID will be replaced with compact fluorescent or LED.
· Most spaces with 8 or more lamps will have vacancy sensors installed.
· Lighting attached to building exteriors will be photocell controlled if appropriate.
Miscellaneous Requirements:
· All EXIT signs will be replaced with LED.
· Incandescent medium base lamp fixtures < 100 watts will be replaced with screw-in CF or LED.
· Incandescent lamp fixtures >100 watts and small HID retrofitted or replaced with separately ballasted CF using triple tube (TRT) amalgam lamps.
· 32 watt and 42 watt TRT CF may be replaced with lower wattage lamps if enclosures do not dissipate heat well. For instance a 32 watt lamp in a 6” can” will be replaced with a 26 watt lamp.
· Other CF fixtures will not be retrofitted.
· MR-16 HIR will still be allowed for many applications.
