Responsible for providing the philosophy, direction and implementation for a highly structured, comprehensive Therapeutic Recreation Program and Summer Residential Outdoor Recreation and Academic Program for children who are emotionally disabled and learning disabled. Also, serve as the Director of Athletics.

Administer, develop, organize, schedule, supervise, coach and teach.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Supervised thirteen full time Therapeutic Recreation Professionals.
  • Directed a comprehensive interscholastic athletic program for boys and girls

(basketball, soccer, swimming, volleyball, softball).

  • Developed procedures for complete operation of all recreation facilities including the gymnasium and swimming pool, including all scheduling, programming and staffing.
  • Responsible for the overall recreation budget, specifically the ordering of equipment and supplies necessary for a twelve month recreation program.
  • Responsible for the care of all recreation equipment used and all non-recreation

equipment and facilities used by the recreation staff.

  • Arrange for visiting special guests and for visiting volunteer ventures to local hospitals and agencies.
  • Develop communications with all other public and private schools and/or recreation departments or agencies.
  • Served as a liaison between the Devereux Glenholme Recreation Program and the

Connecticut Recreation and Park Association.

  • Recruitment of full and part-time therapeutic recreation staff.

non-profit organization under the Devereux Foundation for

Responsible for providing a variety of activities for both boys and girls between the ages of seven and fourteen. Additional duties included coaching basketball, soccer, and teaching a variety of outdoor recreation activities (marksmanship, camp crafts, archery, etc.)

Responsible for Lyman II Ward, one of four units in the hospital. Worked closely with all staff as a Recreational Therapist in Therapeutic Recreation Counseling, program planning and leadership. Introduced new lifetime skill activities of casting and archery. Planned a

variety of out-trips, guest speakers, and entertainers. Wrote an adapted sports program containing statement of purpose, general fun activities, lifetime skill activities, facility and equipment ideas and modifications.
