Chapter President Barbara Forrest/University of Montevallo welcomed everyone and introduced the officers. Past President – Judy Harrison/Jacksonville State University, President Elect – Angela Harrill/Birmingham Southern, Treasurer – Brenda Adams/University of Alabama at Birmingham,
Secretary – Teresa Faulkner/University of Alabama
Official Welcome to American Village
Barbara introduced Tom Walker, American Village Founder to provide a special welcome. He spoke to the importance of what we do as HR professionals and referenced DeAnna Smith, University of Montevallo’s Vice President for Business Affairs stating that HR is the glue that enables us to fulfill our mission. And shared that trustees and presidents do need to continue to underscore the importance of HR on campus and connect with the group.
He highlighted the American Village purpose to build citizenship and to remind others of citizenship and patriotism sharing that…history is to a people what memory is to an individual…
Announcements
-Barbara introduced and thanked DeAnna Smith, Vice President of Business Affairs for supporting her team and UM as the host institution.
-Barbara announced a slight change in the agenda regarding the tour of the American Village.
-Barbara introduced the University of Montevallo HR Team and thanked them for their hard work.
Program Presentation
Angela Harrill introduced Hawkins Tatum, Risk Consultant with S.S. Nesbitt and Company for his presentation, HealthCare Reform Update – Reporting and Compliance. Q&A followed and it was announced that the presentation would be emailed to participants.
Entertainment and Lunch
The group broke for The American Village tour followed by lunch.
Comments from DeAnna Smith, Vice President of Business Affairs
Special comments were shared by DeAnna Smith and Barbara presented her with a gift to thank her for supporting ALACUPA-HR and Barbara’s work with the organization.
Program Presentation
Teresa Faulkner introduced Beth Howard, Title IX Coordinator with The University of Alabama for her presentation, Interaction of Title IX and Title VII for Human Resources Professionals. Q&A followed and it was announced that the presentation would be emailed to participants. Barbara thanked Beth for her presentation
Meeting Adjournment
Barbara announced that in lieu of the Business Meeting we would move to announcements and door prizes. And she gave a special “thanks” to Staples for providing the welcome bags and door prizes.
