Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales (Vineland)
Teacher Rating Form
Used for Ages 3-21
Used to assess personal and social sufficiency
Four Domains
1. Communication- how a student listens and pays attention
2. Daily Living Skills- student’s daily habits and hygiene, time, money, and math, and ability to follow rules and routines
3. Socialization- how a student interacts with others, uses play and leisure time, and demonstrates responsibility and sensitivity to others
4. Motor Skills- gross and fine motor skills
Test Completion
1. Complete the front cover of the test book. Calculate the student’s age and write in on the front cover in the About the Student section.
2. Determine the Start Point for each Subdomain
Decide what age to use as your start point taking into consideration the student’s level of functioning. The objective is to start at a point where the student will almost certainly obtain full credit on the first several items. Unless you suspect a developmental delay or deficits in adaptive functioning, you should start at the student’s chronological age. Do not round up chronological age when determining start points. If you suspect a student’s behavior to be well below average for his chronological age, base start points on a younger age. You must use the same start point in each domain. Write the age used at start points on the front cover of the test book.
3. Notice stop points in the Written Subdomain and Academic Subdomain. The Motor Skills Domain is only for students under the age of 6. All others can mark out this section.
4. Beginning at your determined start point, answer questions using a score of 0-2. Circle only one response to each question. If you want to change an answer, mark an X through it and circle your new choice.
5. Be careful when estimating responses. The test only allows up to 40 estimated responses, depending on the age of the student, for the entire test. If the number of estimated items exceeds the limit for the student’s age, you cannot score the test.
Scoring
1. Complete the top of page 18 with the Number of Estimated Items from each subdomain.
2. Complete page 18- Raw Score Summary by transferring the number of 2’s and 1’s from each subdomain to this chart. Add numbers in each subdomain box to get a Raw Score for each subdomain. All items before the starting point receive a score of 2.
3. Complete page 19- Vineland-II Teacher Rating Form Score Summary
a)Transfer raw scores from page 18 to page 19 in the appropriate box for each subdomain.
b)Determine v-Scale Scores for each raw score using Table B.1 in the Manual (page 145). Write this score in the appropriate box beside each Raw Score for each subdomain.
c)Sum the v-Scale Scores for each subdomain and write this in on the form.
d) Determine Domain Standard Scores for each sum by using Table B.2 in the Manual (starting on page 170). Write the standard score for each domain in the appropriate box on the form.
e) Determine the Adaptive Level for each subdomain by using Table C.4 in the Manual (page 189). Write this level in the appropriate space in the Adaptive Level column.
4. Determine the Adaptive Behavior Composite by adding the domain standard scores.
Refer back to Table B.2 and determine the Adaptive Behavior Composite Standard Score using the sum of the domain standard scores.
5. Determine Adaptive Behavior Level by using Table C.4
