Research proposal (In addition to your summary above): Set out as completely as possible your plans to study or undertake research, giving details of the research project or interests that you propose to pursue. Include an assessment of the benefits, both professional and personal, that you expect from your proposed research. Theses and dissertations that address one or more of thethematic priorities will be at an advantage. CORE has a large focus on e-learning. Research topics with an e-learning focus will be at an advantage. CORE is particularly interested in research that touches on effective pedagogy in ONE OR MORE of the following themes, in the early years, primary, or secondary sectors.
  • Māori or Pasifika values and concepts of ‘ako’ reciprocal teaching and learning between the teacher and student

CORE Education is not obligated to award the scholarship, and need not provide a reason for doing so.
That if I withdraw from my degree prior to completion, CORE Education Ltd may require partial repayment of any awarded scholarship money. This will be assessed on a case by case basis.
That the scholarship will be paid over two periods, with half the awarded funds at the beginning of the postgraduate research programme, and the second period after evidence has been accepted by CORE Education that I have successfully completed the postgraduate research programme and passed the programme. I understand if I do not pass the postgraduate research programme I will not receive the second disbursement of the scholarship.

Provide the CORE Education Scholarships Manager with regular reports on my satisfactory progress or otherwise, and a final report at the completion of the scholarship
Contribute two peer-reviewed 200-300 word pieces of writing for the CORE BLOG
Be available to be videoed for an EdTalks video on my research.
Fund remaining travel costs (beyond the $500 stipend awarded) to the national Ulearn 2015 conference and present my findings in a workshop (day-registration will be provided).
Use the funds for the purposes granted
Acknowledge the assistance given by CORE Education in any written reports, publications, publicity or media releases associated with my CORE-funded research.
Authorise CORE Education to directly credit the university or wananga fees payments to a level as agreed by CORE Education.
Provide CORE Education with written evidence of successful (passed) postgraduate programme completion to receive the remaining half of the scholarship.

To the proposed supervisor: The Dr Vince Ham Excellence in Postgraduate Research Scholarship seeks to develop and contribute to the body of research knowledge in education nationally. The purposes of this scholarship are many, including:

  • Building partnerships with tertiary institutions,
  • Supporting educators who want to work on postgraduate research projects but may have to continue to work at school during this period,
  • Supporting educators currently working in schools/kura or early childhood settings to conduct quality peer-reviewed research.
  • To push the boundaries of educational possibility by cultivating research in one or more of CORE’s thematic priority areas (see below).

CORE Education has a large focus on e-learning. Research topics with an e-learning focus will be at an advantage. CORE is particularly interested in research that touches on effective pedagogy in one or more of the following themes, in the early years, primary, or secondary sectors.

  • Māori engagement and success

  • Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
  • Modern Learning environments and future-focused schools

The Dr Vince Ham Excellence in Postgraduate Research Scholarship is highly competitive. This form should be independently completed by the person within this candidate’s proposed university departmentthat is best able to comment on the candidate’s suitability to complete a dissertation or masters thesis within that department/school and the availability of resources to support the Candidate. Please note, this is not a scholarship to support a fully papers-based postgraduate degree or professional development degree, it requires enrolment for a masters thesis, doctoral thesis or an honours dissertation paper/programme. The scholarship will be for a one-year duration.
