Assessment: Writing samples (summary of a story) and teacher observation of students’ reading and discussion skills/abilities, and the Achieve 3000 handout. Vocabulary quiz results and a completed Say-Mean-Matter chart.

Wednesday: SSR
Thursday & Friday: Journaling “Design and describe a tiny island that would be a perfect escape for you for a couple of days.”

Monday & Tuesday:Taking notes during a power point presentation.
Completing the first Say-Mean-Matter activity together as a whole class.
Wednesday: Review the steps of Dialectic journals
Thursday & Friday:Reading and discussion of the story “Little Boxes”

  • Introduction of new vocabulary
  • Power Point presentation on how to correctly complete a Say-Mean-Matter activity and address the essential question.
Wednesday:
  • Introduction of dialectic journals

  • Teacher lead class discussion of the text

Discussion of the quote at the beginning of the story.
  • Students will complete a Say-Mean-Matter activity in their table groups.
