KIA SORENTO HITS SALES TARGET AS KIA SALES RISE 32% IN THE FIRST HALF OF 2003

Kia posted its best ever month in Australia in June - the second month in a row it has broken its own sales record - driven in part by the Kia Sorento hitting its 100 sales a month target some six months ahead schedule and enabling Kia to boost sales by more than 32 per cent in the first half of 2003 according to VFACTS figures released today (3 July 2003).

"With 106 sales in June, the Kia Sorento has reached its 100 sales a month target some six months ahead of the sales schedule we announced at its launch in February," says Edward Butler, Kia National Sales Manager. "Demand for the Sorento is growing consistently and ahead of our ability to supply. When we have more stock, thanks to extra capacity being added by Kia, and stock of the leather equipped versions later in the year, we expect sales to easily surpass the 100 vehicle a month target."

In volume terms, the Kia Rio is Kia's top seller, accounting for a third of Kia's sales, but unlike many of its competitors that are totally dependent on the small car sector, Kia's sales diversity plays a significant role in its growth, some of whom have declined by almost the exact same percentage as Kia has gained sales.

The Kia Carnival is firmly entrenched as Australia's second most popular people mover, a significant achievement against its better known rivals, likewise the Kia Pregio, also number two in the highly competitive van sector. The Kia K2700 1.5 tonne truck which, like the Pregio has come from nowhere in 12 months to be a major player in the market, is now dominant force its market sector, with 43 per cent of its market giving it an unassailable number one position.

"The on going increase in Kia sales is continuing confirmation of how our model policies suit the demands Australian market," says Edward Butler. "We have selected from Kia's extensive model range vehicles that suit Australia conditions These are well equipped and featured cars and commercial vehicles at value for money pricing, delivered to our customers via a dedicated and skilled dealer group who ensure maximum customer satisfaction. It's a winning formula that we believe will take Kia into the top ten Australian brands by the end of the year."
