General description
A slender, digital handheld recorder and media player, which has voice navigation, tactile buttons, an LCD screen and audible feedback to assist you through the folders and menus. The Olympus DM-670 records in up to 48kHz/16bit Linear PCM format - surpassing CD quality - and is ideal for meetings, conferences, educational studies as well as for downloading music. With three high-quality microphones for true, wideband stereo recording the DM-670 can improve the capture of low frequency sounds and has a voice and low-cut filter to cut out any unwanted background noise.
The recording capacity of the Olympus DM-670 with its 8GB built in memory allows for over 2,000 hours of recording, plenty of storage for your favourite music and also for downloading podcasts and audio books.
The recorder’s voice guide is turned on when you receive this product.

Below is a Quick-start guide, which covers how to charge via a PC using the USB and highlights the features of the display contents including the home screen as well as the recorder. It also explains how to record, playback and erase recordings. This section is for those people who are familiar with Olympus products and who just want to start using the product. However, it is recommended that these instructions are read in their entirety before first use.

Power supply
When the recorder is not being used, turn the power off to reduce the battery consumption to a minimum. Even if the power is turned off, existing data, mode settings, and clock settings will be maintained.
Turning on the power
While the recorder is turned off, slide the Power/Hold switch down and hold for a second or so. The display will turn on and the power will be turned on. You will hear a high-pitched jingle, followed by a battery level announcement.
Turning off the power
Slide the Power/Hold switch down and hold for a second or so. The display shuts off, and the power will be turned off. A one-tone sound will be heard as it turns off. The resume function remembers the stop position before the power is turned off.
Power save mode
If the recorder is on and is not used for 10 minutes or longer (default), the display shuts off and it goes into power save mode. To exit power save mode press any button.
Charging by connecting to a computer via USB
You can charge the batteries by connecting to a USB port on a PC. When charging, be sure to correctly place the rechargeable batteries (supplied) into the recorder.
1. Start up the PC.
2. Connect the USB cable to the USB port on the PC.
3. While the recorder is in stop mode or turned off, connect the USB cable to the connecting terminal on the bottom of the recorder.
4. Press the OK/Play button to start charging while [Press OK/Play to start charging] flashes on the display.
5. Charging is completed when the battery indication symbol shows an F.
Charging time: approximately three hours*
* The charging time will be changed depending on the remaining amount and the condition of the batteries.
Display (LCD panel)
File display
Information of the selected file is displayed.
At the top left of the display will be a small icon showing the memory facility being used. This is the Recording media indicator and can either be a small square with the letters IN, indicating the built-in internal memory is being used. Alternatively, a small microSD symbol will be shown, which indicates that an external microSD memory is being used.
To the right of the symbol is the current file name followed by the current file number/Total number of recorded files in the folder.
In the top right of the display is the battery level indicator.
On the next row of information, from left to right is as follows: Folder indicator (such as folder A); key symbol (File lock indicator); Recording mode indicator (such as MP3 or WMA). To the right of this information is a series of small numbers - this is the remaining time of the playing selected file.
On the next row on the left of the display is the recorder status indicator (this can be a variety of different symbols including: record, pause, stop, play, forward, rewind, fast play or slow play). To the right of this information is a series of large numbers - this is the elapsed time of the playing selected file.
Directly below this information is the Remaining memory bar indicator and Playback position bar indicator.
Below this and to the right side of the display is the date and time of the selected file.
On the next row are a series of symbols, which are as follows:
The symbols as they appear on the display will be described and then the meaning.
Clock = timer
Small clock with brackets = alarm
Small microphone with letter H = microphone sensitivity
VCVA = VCVA
SYNC = voice sync
AUTO = record level
Cross = low cut filter
Small microphone = zoom microphone
N = noise cancel
V = voice filter
ALL, two lines crossing each other and pointing right, square with an arrow pointing left = playback mode
Arch shape with a dot below it and small letter P = EUPHONY
Squiggly line and small letter S = Reverb
At the bottom left of the display is the Function guide indicator (Home or Index in this instance. This indicates that if you press the F1 button, which is directly below the word Home on the display, it will take you back to the home menu. Or, if you press the F2 button, which is directly below the word Index on the display, it will insert an index mark.
[Home] display operations
You can use this recorder as a digital voice recorder, as well as a digital music player.
Once the DM-670 is switched on and set up it will automatically go to the [Home] menu. Alternatively, press the LIST button repeatedly to set the [Home] display.
Press either the Up or Down button to select the [Recorder], [Music] or [Podcast].
Press OK/Play or forward to confirm and enter the setting.
When Recorder is selected: The recorder will go into Recorder mode. You will be able to record and playback files recorded by the recorder.
When Music is selected: The recorder will go into Music mode. You will be able to playback music files transferred to the recorder.
When Podcast is selected: The recorder will go into Podcast mode. You will be able to playback podcast files transferred to the recorder.
Selecting the folders and files
How to change folders while the operation is stopped or during play.
Proceed down a level: When in the Recorder, Music or Podcast folders, you can press the Up or Down button to scroll through the folders, and then press the OK/Play or forward button to enter the folder. You can then follow the same procedure within the relevant folder for the files contained there.
Return up a level: While the recorder is in stop mode in the file display press the LIST button, which then takes you back a step. You can press this button until it takes you out and back to the [Home] menu.
Recording
1. Select the recording folder
Before starting a recording, select a folder from A-E from within the Recorder menu.
2. Press the REC button to prepare recording
The record symbol will appear on the display and one beep will sound.
The following information will be shown on the display:
Recording mode (MP3, WMA or PCM)
Remaining recording time
Elapsed recording time
Remaining memory bar indicator
Level meter (changes according to the recording level and recording function settings).
3. Press the STOP button to stop recording
The stop symbol will appear on the display along with the file length. A double beep will sound.
Playback
1. Select the file to be played back from within the relevant folder A-E.
2. Press the OK/Play button to start playback.
The Play symbol will appear on the display with the following:
Recording media indicator, File name, Folder indicator
File length
Elapsed playback time
Playback position bar indicator
Level meter
3. Press the Up or Down button to adjust the volume to a comfortable listening level.
The volume can be adjusted within a range from [00] to [30].
4. Press the Stop button at any point you want to stop the playback, this will stop the file being played. When the resume function is activated the stopped location will be registered, even if the power is turned off. The next time the power is turned on, playback may be resumed from the registered stopped location.
Changing the playback speed
Change the speed according to your needs, such as listening to meeting content at a fast speed or reviewing spots that you couldn’t capture in a language lesson at a slow speed, for example.
1. While the recorder is in playback mode, press the OK/Play button.
2. Press the Up or Down button to select playback speed from range between [0.5] to [3.0].
3. Press the OK/Play button.
When the playback speed option is selected the Play symbol will appear with the letter S on the display.
