Peaceful Valley Martial Arts Kata Bunkai Drills

Attacker alternates with middle seikan punches starting left, each new kata starts with a left punch except Chinto which starts with a right punch.

Seisan

1.  Step forward left, left chudan uke/right seikan punch. Secret scroll #2

2.  Scoot left into right foot forward seisan, right kakite block, turn over and push/pull nukite under ribs.

3.  Step back right into seiunchin, high left chudan uke (end of fight)

4.  Evade backwards into cat stance and post on right hip, step out left into zenkutsu and left uranken, parry down right if attacker’s punch is in the way.

5.  Again, evade into cat stance, left empi down.

6.  Step off to left into cat stance, right biggie block, left mae geri, push/pull seikan punch.

Seiuchin

1.  Step back right seiunchin, left kakite block, turn over/grab and pull into nukite.

2.  Step back into cat stance, scoop with left hand, hammer fist right.

3.  Step forward left into seisan, reinforced left chudan uke.

4.  Step back left into seiunchin, left shuto to block attack/right shuto to solar plexus (simulating kumae from kata).

5.  Step left foot forward seisan, biggie block/break forearm, and scoot forward okazuki to chin.

6.  Scoot left into right foot forward seisan, right chudan uke/left gedan uke (high/low block).

7.  Shuto down with right, step forward left into seiunchin, okazuki to raise chin/uraken to throat.

8.  Step forward right into seisan, shuto down left, uraken right.

Naihanchi

1.  Step forward left into a naihanchi on the 45, kakite left, turn over, push/pull empi.

2.  Shift to a naihanchi square to opponent, right open hand bone block (chudan uke like).

3.  Right hand rotates down and around to a low bone block (gedan uke like), left hand comes up to middle bone block (chudan uke like), followed by uranken to face (right hand folds under like kata)

4.  Pivot right, bone block

5.  Pivot left, bone block

6.  Step back left into naihanchi (perpendicular to opponent), right seikan punch to the side, left hand covers the heart. Secret Scroll #3

Wansu

1.  Step forward left into seisan, left biggie block.

2.  Scoot left, high left shuto to block attack, low right shuto strike to groin.

3.  Step behind left leg into crane stance, left gedan uke or uranken, right hand covers heart or chudan uke to block attack if not cleared when stepping to side.

4.  Step out into right foot forward seisan, right biggie block (short block), left hisa geri, left seikan punch

5.  Scoot to the right, left foot forward, kumae, left hand blocks, right hand on hip (final kumae in kata)

Chinto

1.  Step back right into cat stance, cross block, bring arm around, scoot in, uraken, seikan punch. (first sequence of kata)

2.  Shift into seisan stance left foot forward, biggie block/catch/empi. (to arm or ribs)

3.  Step back right into seiunchin, kumae (both hands back like in kata)

4.  Step forward right into zenkutsu, shuto with right hand, ridge hand to throat followed by double shuto to throat.

5.  Shift into seisan right foot forward, biggie block/catch/smash forearm.

Kusanku

1.  Step off to right, left foot forward seisan, both hands up kumae (blocks preferred)

2.  Step out left into kusanku, high block left, circular shuto right to block attack.

3.  Shift to right side kusanku, left chudan uke, shift back to left side kusanku and seikan punch

4.  Right side trophy kick. (right hand blocks attack)

5.  Step down into right foot forward seisan and kumae, Scoot forward and parry up following in quickly with seikan punch.

6.  Left bone block to attack (no stance change, contrary to normal blocking)

7.  Step behind right into crane stance while doing a right bone block

8.  Step back into right foot forward seisan, right chudan uke followed by two seikan punches

9.  Step back right into cat stance, post on right hip, on incoming attack step out into heiko and uranken fist. Secret Scroll #7

10.  Step forward right into crane, left hand shutos attack down, right hand nukite to throat.

11.  Trophy kick with left out of crane stance

12.  Scoot over left into right foot forward seisan, kakite block right, scoot forward high left/low right shuto.

Sunsu

1.  Step forward left, left chudan uke, right seikan.

2.  Scoot left to right foot forward seisan, right chudan uke, double seikan punch.

3.  Step back right into seiunchin kumae, (hands above head like kata or full nelson release)

4.  Step forward left, basic #13

5.  Scoot forward, right shuto, left nukite to throat

6.  Scoot right, left biggie block, right nukite to ribs

7.  Shift right foot behind into crane, shuto with left to block attack, shuto to throat with right (simulating shade block from kata), kick right and step down into right foot forward seisan.

8.  As you step down, right hand gedan uke to block attack, left hand jodan uke (repeat twice more)

9.  As attack comes in step forward and chudan uke right but continue to bring attacker’s fist down towards right hip, while preforming a U-punch, left low/right high.

10.  Pull left foot back into cat, wedge block

11.  Squat off to left, squat kick

12.  Right hand parries left, left hand in to grab groin, scoot forward empi followed by double empi

13.  Using left hand from previous position, lift attack up while turning right away from attacker into seiunchin and break arm on shoulder while emping with right. Secret Scroll #5

14.  Scoot away (right foot forward making a full turn around), wing block, uraken. Secret Scroll #4

15.  Shift into right foot forward seisan, kumae pushing attack away.

Sanchin

1.  Step forward left in sanchin, left chudan uke, right seiken

2.  Step back into right forward sanchin, circular block followed by right shuto to groin and left shuto to face.
