Discoverers EYFS Medium Term for 2-5’s Date: 03/01/2017

Main focus/theme
Displays; Winter Theme Update family board with new children’s photo’s. keyworker board. Re-arrange Parent and information Board etc. Settling 2/3 children this time. Continue settling Rayyan / Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Developing independence in using the provisions. Focus on Self Help Skills, Toileting , dressing and undressing. Helping children and supporting parents to build relationships. Encourage children to have or use something new. / Communication and Language
Supporting and Encourage children in developing their listening and attention skills. Daily stories and Rhymes. Sessions to encourage language in small groups/one to one to increase attention and recall. eg Rhyme Time ,Stories Daily. Language input in all areas. / Physical Development
Provide lots of opportunities for large and small physical movement. egGym, Space in room to move freely around inside and outside in all weathers. Lots of wheeled toys, climbing frame, Soft Play, Ball Pool, plus lots of climbing and jumping equipment.
Maths
Continue to develop a repertoire of Rhymes and Songs using numbers .
Sorting and Matching games etc.
Postal Boxes, Jigsaws, Course and Effect toys.
Shape toys. / Literacy
Working alongside children to extend confidence in mark making, using different materials, i.e. cellophane, paper, cloth etc.
Continue to encourage children to see meaningful print in the environment, things like names, labels, books which are changed regularly. / Understanding the World
Continue to go out into the environment, Local trips using the camera to recall and retell.
Awareness of the road safety.
Visit places like Tower of London, Train Stations with short trips on trains. Learning to cross and behaviour when out in the environment. / Expressive Art and Design
Encourage to make choices, support to extend and explore Role Play Areas, Small world Play. To encourage their imaginative play and express their skills and ideas creatively.
Characteristics of Effective Learning / Assessment
To ensure that planning is up to date…… Weekly, Individual, Medium Term Plans. Update and always use.
Encourage and remind parents to use home and school books. Send home book daily. / Environment/Resources
Maintain equipment and tools.
Health and Safety checks on room and bathroom every day.
To provide safe excess to all areas in the Centre to enable children to explore and learn. / Parents
Develop relationships with parents and carers.
Have an opendoor policy so parents can join in activities.
