August 5/6, 2017 9th Sunday after Pentecost
Matthew 14:17-18 “They said to him, "We have only five loaves here and two fish." 18 And he said, "Bring them here to me."” When the disciples held on to the five loaves and two fish – that’s exactly what they had. But when they handed them over to the Lord, the multitudes are fed. Apart from Jesus all we do and all we have is nothing – but in Jesus all we do and have is blessed to be used by the Lord for His gracious work.

"HONOR THE PAST, CELEBRATE THE FUTURE" Sunday, September 3rd St. Paul's Lutheran Church will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the congregation with a special service at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Dr. Dale Meyer, President of Concordia Seminary and former Lutheran Hour Speaker, will be preaching the sermon in that service. (Please note that there will be no 8:00 a.m. service or Bible study on that morning, Sept. 3rd.) We will have the regular Saturday evening service. Pastor Schuessler will be preaching the Saturday service.
In celebration of St. Paul's 150th Anniversary, we will "Honor the Past" with an old-fashion potluck dinner to "Celebrate the Future". The dinner will be held on Sunday, September 3rd at noon in the Ministry Center. RSVP for the dinner is required by August 21. This is so that we know we have ordered enough chicken.

WE WELCOME ALL WHO WORSHIP AT ST. PAUL’S. We pray that God will bless your worship with us. Please register your attendance on the pad at the end of the pew after the offering. As a member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LC-MS), St. Paul’s practices close communion. We believe that receiving the Lord’s Supper together shows a common confession of faith in all areas of doctrine (not just in Communion).
If you are a member of a LC-MS congregation in good standing, you are invited to receive communion. If you are not a member of a LC-MS congregation, please talk with the pastor or an elder prior to the service. The elders are the gentlemen that are wearing the “ELDER” badges.
We offer both the common cup and individual up to those who commune. The center individual cups are white grape juice for those who are not able to have wine. Children are welcome to come forward with their family to receive a blessing. We celebrate the Lord’s Supper in every Saturday service, in the Sunday 8:00 a.m. on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sunday, and in the Sunday 10:30 a.m. on the 2nd and 4th Sunday.
New or visiting today? Please be sure to sign our Guest Register in the narthex. You’ll find plenty of useful information in this OnDeck (published weekly). You may also go to www.saintpaulstroy.org and find the monthly newsletter and other information about the church, school and daycare.

HELP NEEDED! This Tuesday, August 8th, your help is needed as we work to clean up the landscaping in front of the Ministry Center. We will begin at 10:00 a.m. We want to have this looking good for the Anniversary celebration of the congregation as well as for the appearance in the community. All ages are welcome to help. Bring your gloves and willingness to work.
OPPORTUNITY TO BE INVOLVED IN THE 150TH CELEBRATION: There is a potluck dinner on September 3rd following the celebration service. We have a sign-up sheet in the narthex so that we know a general idea of what is being brought. Fried chicken is being supplied, along with drinks. We need the members of the congregation to sign up for what they plan to bring. There is a table set up in the narthex the next two weeks for you to become a part of this dinner.
ANNIVERSARY MEMORABLIA: The 150th anniversary commemorative cross can be ordered until final purchase order is placed on September 5. The cost is $25 per ornament. Order forms are available in the narthex and can be placed inside the 'church'. We also have the 50th anniversary ornaments of the current church building (from 2013) available for purchase at $15 each.
