Dear Editor,

I’m/we’re holding a collection as part of the children and young people’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent’s Big Bucket Collection 2014, and I’m writing to ask your readers/listeners if they could give a little time to help us collect for a couple of hours during the day.

The Big Bucket Collection is a national fundraising event and is being held in September this year as part of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, when CLIC Sargent will be highlighting the impact cancer has on children and young people, and their families. We are aiming to raise £150,000 from collections across the UK.

I/weare looking for fellow ‘Bucketeers’ to join us for a few hours collecting on (insert date and venue e.g. Saturday 27th September at Tesco Golden Hill, Bristol) and we will be (insert details about any themes for the event e.g. wearing fancy dress)

I was/We wereinspired to take part as (insert personal connection to CLIC Sargent if this applies).

Every day ten children and young people are diagnosed with cancer and fundraising events like the Big Bucket Collection 2014 will help CLIC Sargent to continue to expand their work providing practical, financial and emotional support to families whose lives have been turned upside down by cancer.

CLIC Sargent do all they can to help, but right now they can only support two out of three children and young people coping with cancer, and that’s why the money that local volunteers help to raise is so important.

Collecting for two hours could raise £75, which could help pay for three hours of a CLIC Sargent Nurse’s time, so that they can coordinate clinical and non-clinical care for children with cancer, to maximise the amount of time they can safely spend at home, and ensure that treatments can be given closer to home where possible.

If you’d like to join me/usat our bucket collection please contact me on (insert phone number) or at (insert email address).

It’s easy to register to hold your own collection too, just visit or call 0845 121 2495

Thank you for your support,

(Insert your name – e.g. Mary and James Smith)

About childhood cancer

Every day, 10 children and young people in the UK hear the shocking news they have cancer. Treatment normally starts immediately, is often given many miles from home and can last for up to three years. Although survival rates are over 80%, cancer remains the single largest cause of death from disease in children and young people in the UK.

About CLIC Sargent

CLIC Sargent is the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people, and their families. We provide clinical, practical and emotional support to help them cope with cancer and get the most out of life. For more information visit

About Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

This year Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is moving from December to September – in line with countries around the world including Northern Ireland, America, Canada and Australia – so we can join together to make it a truly global campaign.

During September, CLIC Sargent will be highlighting the impact of childhood cancer with a variety of activities, and one of the central activities will be Big Bucket Collections across the UK.
