Sentence solving steps

1.  Find any prepositional phrases

2.  Locate the verb, is it action or linking?

3.  Ask : who or what verb? = subject

4.  Ask : verb whom or what? =

Action verb – Direct Object

Linking verb – Predicate word(Noun, Pronoun, Adjective)

5.  Verb Direct Object to/for whom or what? = Indirect Object

Adjective questions – What kind, Which one, How many

Adverb questions – How (to what extent), When, Where

Four kinds of sentences – Declarative, Imperative, Exclamatory, Interrogative

Article Adjectives - A , An, The

Conjunctions (connects words and groups of words) – And , But, Or

Correlative Conjunctions – both…and, either…or, neither…nor, not only…but also

Interjections (word or words to express feeling) – Wow, Oh No, Hey, Ouch

Helping Verbs - is am are was were be being been must can will should could would shall may might have has had do does did

Linking Verbs – is am are was were be being been look feel sound taste smell become grow remain seem stay appear

Subject Pronouns (Nominative case) (S, PN ) – I, you, he, she, it, we, they, you

Object Pronouns (Objective case) (OP, DO, IO)– me, you, her, him, it, us, you, them

Possessive Pronouns – my, mine, your, yours, her, hers, his, its, our, ours, their, theirs

Singular indefinite pronouns - another, anybody, anyone, anything, each, either, everybody, everyone, everything, neither, nobody, no one, nothing, one, somebody, someone, something, much

Plural indefinite pronouns – both, few, many, several, others

Demonstrative adjectives – this, that, these, those

Reflective/Intensive pronouns – myself, himself, herself, yourself, itself, ourselves, yourselves, themselves

Interrogative pronouns – who, whom, what, whose
