More progress is needed in regards to the CCC relationship with CSAC
CCCConfer has increased communication
CCCCO meeting handouts are available electronically for Regional Reps to send out to members in their regions. Tim can send them to us if we request them. They will soon be available on the CCCCO web site.
State Issues Committee made good progress on several issues
Alternate FARR are a good resource for committee work
If we de-obligate SFAA funds, will we be penalized the following year? Tim is unsure.
CCCSFAAA Minutes from 7/31/03
A motion was made by Toni to approve, the motion was seconded by Andi. The motion carried
TREASURER’S REPORT - Toni
Toni received a letter from IRS stating we have been filing the incorrect form and that they have assessed a penalty of $3,300. Toni has been in discussions with the IRS. Her written response was circulated at the meeting and a copy will be kept with the minutes.
There was discussion of the amount of money CCCSFAAA has in reserve and in operating accounts. It is the belief of some CCCSFAAA Board members that it is wise to have enough money to cover any unexpected costs such as any conference contracts that we cannot meet and therefore must pay penalties, travel that CCCCO may not be able to cover in the future. There are also miscellaneous costs (CCCSFAAA Newsletter, postage, etc) that are covered by other sources that CCCSFAAA would need to have resources to cover should sponsors back out.
One more hotel has been added to the conference web site; Casa Munras, $92 per night with free parking. It is ½ mile from the conference hotel.
JoAnn made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s report, it was seconded by Jill. The motion carried.
SCHOLARSHIP REPORT - Brad
Staff Scholarships - There were only eight applications for the FAA Staff Conference Scholarship from four regions. CCCSFAAA had committed to one scholarship per region. Therefore, there will be four scholarships at the most.
Student Scholarships –Brad Hardison brought the student scholarship applications and Regional Reps will make the selections by Wednesday. Jill made a motion to expand the number of student scholarships to two per region (rather than the one per region originally budgeted for) due to the lack of applicants for the staff conference scholarships. The motion was seconded by Andi. The motion carried.
STATE ISSUES COMMITTEE - Craig
Craig acknowledged the work that Joaquin and Sheri Hancock made during their reign as State Issues Committee Chairs. Craig feels that there has been headway made with regards to CCCSFAAA and CSAC communications.
GPA memo came out
Will be monitoring 9/2 materials to ensure they come out as soon after the 3/2 deadline as possible
Governor’s Scholars program was not funded for 2003-04. All awards granted prior to 2003-04 will be funded but no new awards will be made.
CSAC has been asked to prepare for a 20% reduction in their budget from local funds. Per Tim, this could equate to cuts in direct aid; reduction in Cal Grant annual awards.
