Maysville FFA Captures Second at State FFA Livestock Evaluation Career Development Event

STILLWATER, Okla. — Members of the Maysville FFA Chapter won second-place honors in the State FFA Livestock Evaluation Career Development Event during the 2018 Oklahoma FFA Career Development Events at Oklahoma State University April 28.

Team members are Zachary Green, Matti Allen and Makayla Green. Zachary Green received second-place individual honors.

The Maysville agricultural education instructor and FFA adviser is Brittany Morphew.

Livestock judging contests are designed to help students evaluate beef cattle, sheep, goats and swine based on physical characteristics and records for breeding and market usage. The participants also give oral reasons explaining their choices of alignment for certain classes.

The OSU College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and the Department of Animal Science hosted the contest. American Royal qualifying sponsors are Randy and Deanna Abbott of Bar A. Inc. in Pryor, Okla., and the Oklahoma FFA Alumni Association.

The team will compete in the American Royal Livestock Judging contest held in November.

FFA is an integral part of the Agricultural Education division in the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education system.
