JOBSUMMARY: Under general direction from the Field Team Lead candidate will perform field tasks to include collection of soil, water, waste and other environmental samples. This person will also be required to assistant with logging soil cores, complete chain-of-custody records, pack sample coolers, and manage shipment of samples to the analytical laboratory located in Anchorage, Alaska.

Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Follow direction of the field team lead to perform field activities safely, within budget and on schedule.
  • Work with a field team to implement an approved work plan and meet state and federal regulations.
  • Collect, package and ship environmental samples following work plan and state requirements
  • Collect GPS coordinates using Tremble or similar device
  • Log core samples according to ASTM standards
  • Manage, dispose or treat investigation derived waste
  • Characterize waste streams, create profiles, coordinate testing on-site and with off-site laboratory
  • Review analytical results as needed to support field decisions
  • Coordinate sample management with Agviq PM and laboratory
  • Support reporting by completing field logbook and field forms accurately and completely
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS

  • Knowledge of applicable Federal and State environmental regulations, rules, policies and processes
  • Works well with a field team under various weather conditions on North Slope Alaska
  • Understands working around drill rig collecting environmental samples
  • Works well in remote village conditions
  • General understanding of environmental sampling requirements
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with individuals with wide array of cultural, political, educational, socio-economic, geographic and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Skill in addressing sensitive issues and situations.
  • Understands importance of safe work practices.
  • Ability to focus on details associated with repetitive tasks
  • Understands the legal importance associated with documentation and chain-of-custody

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION

A High School Diploma is required for this position. College degree in a science related field is a plus for individuals interested in developing an environmental based career.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION

Two(2) years environmental experience performing tasks identified for this position. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.

MINIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION

None.

PREFERREDEXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION

Experienceworking in arctic conditions in the environmental field for extended periods. Familiar with direct push technology and logging soil cores; installation of monitoring wells; and collection of water samples using low-flow procedure. Basic understanding of Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation 18 AAC 70, 18 AAC 75, 18 AAC 78, and 18 AAC 80 regulations, Field Sampling Guidance, and Monitoring Well Installation Guidance.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Spends extensive amount of time in village camps, working around wild animals and traveling on the north slope of Alaska. HAZWOPER training, ability to pass a drug test and pre-employment physical are required. Agviq will provide training and testing.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The following demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to lift approximately 40 pounds, work in cold conditions, live in remote man camps, and tolerate extended work days (12 hour days 7 days per week).
