Course Objective and/or Description:

Western Kentucky University Course Descriptions:

Subject Code: CFS Course Number: 111 HUMAN NUTRITION

Study of nutrients essential to human life and well-being. Nutrients are studied relative to their function in metabolism, sources in food, and relationship to health.

Grading Policy:

Grades will be determined using a “point system” in which all graded work will be assigned a point value for grades assigned. The individual student’s average will be a percentage determined by dividing the points earned by total points possible. Point values will vary from assignment to assignment. I will not accept late work without an excused note for an absence. Grades will be based on in class assignments, homework, notebook checks, labs, writing assignments, class participation, and assessments. Other grades are assigned by the WKU instructors. Because grades are given from WKU instructors, a grade may not be posted on the BCHS grade book, but students should be able to access their grades through the post-secondary methods. At the end of each nine weeks and at mid-term, I will attempt to add a grade to show progress as shown by the dual credit professors. However, NO GRADE WILL BE OFFICIAL UNTIL THE END OF THE SEMESTER.

Attendance Policy: Students have up to the equivalent number of days absent to make up assignments and/ or tests due to an excused absence. Work may be made up before or after school and must be scheduled with the course instructor.

Dual Credit policy: Students must refer to the WKU class syllabus regarding each class. ALL tests must be taken on the date scheduled by Mrs. Houchens unless planned otherwise. The test dates for individual needs will only be changed if arrangements are made at least 1 week before the set date. For example, if a student has a scheduled doctor appointment or field trip, the test date must be set up 1 week before the class test date and is at the discretion of Mrs. Houchens. When rescheduling a test, it is important to remember that WKU tests are only available for a limited amount of time.

Semester Test Policy: ALL students must take semester exam.

Plagiarism / Academic Dishonesty Policy: Plagiarism and academic dishonesty are serious offenses. The academic work of a student is expected to be his/her own effort. Students must give the author(s) credit for any source material used. To represent ideas or interpretations taken from a source without giving credit is a flagrant act. To present a borrowed passage after having changed a few words, even if the source is cited, is also plagiarism. Students who commit any act of academic dishonesty will receive a failing grade in that portion of the course work. Acts of academic dishonesty will be reported to the administration.
