Troop 200 History Campout

OUTING OVERVIEW: Troop 200 will conduct a National Capitol History Campout based out of Pohick Bay Regional Park and using the Washington Metro to ride into Washington D.C. on Saturday.

PLAN:

- Trailer packing (SPL, PLs & QMs) and driver meeting will be Thu, 17 Sept/1830.

- SHOW time is Friday, 18 Sept/1630in Field Uniform with Activity T-Shirt underneath. Drive time is 3.0 hours (165 miles). Vehicle assignments will be determined after Final Friday.

- Saturday we will ride the MetroRail in D.C., then walk to various memorials/museums on the National Mall. Specific plan/details to be planned and finalized at campout PLC, but possible sites to be visited are Arlington Cemetery, Air and Space Museum, and various memorials on and around the National Mall. Depending on the number of adult leaders present, we may split into groups based interest, while maintaining two adult leaders per group.

- Sunday after a “Scout Is Reverent” service, we will then have a Start/Stop/Continue and travel home.

- RETURN time is Sunday, 20 Sept/1400. If time differs significantly we’ll call.

UNIFORM: Field Uniform (Class A) will be worn on Friday and Sunday while traveling. Field Uniform will also be worn all day on Saturday while touring Washington. PLs will conduct a uniform inspection prior to leaving SLUMC. (Field Uniform, neckerchief preferred, BSA belt and subdued pants). We are representing Boy Scouts of America in our Nation’s Capital – sloppy uniforms will not be tolerated. Activity uniform may be worn at the campsite.

FOOD: Scouts will bring their own bag meal for Friday supper. Patrols will prepare three cooked meals: Saturday breakfast, Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast. All scouts will buy lunch on Saturday in Washington and again on the ride home Sunday. Patrols The Troop and Adult Grubmaster will sign the patrol’s meal plan and assist patrols with meal planning.

COST: The event fee is estimated to be $60 per Scout to cover transportation, site costs, grub, subway fare. As always, refunds are probable! Only Scout Accounts will be used – no cash/checks accepted. The "grubmaster" for each patrol should work within his $15 budget cost per Scout for their patrol food. Scouts should bring $$s for Saturday lunch, Sunday lunch on the road as well as any souvenirs money if they so choose.

DIRECTIONS: Take I-64W to I-295N then I-95N to Washington DC. To reach Pohick Bay, From I95 S, exit 163 to Lorton. Left onto Lorton Rd at the end of exit ramp. Go under second overpass and turn right onto Lorton Market St. (You will see Shoppers Food Warehouse) Go about 1.5 mile to traffic light at RT. 1. Go straight through light (road name changes to Gunston Rd) and go about 4 miles to park entrance on left.

GEAR: Although we will be moving into Fall, scouts will still be outdoors most of the day and there will be warm/wet weather and cool nights. Scouts should bring sunscreen, and watch the weather forecast and pack for the weather and nuisance insects accordingly. Every Scout should be sure to bring his Boy Scout Handbook, (in hopes of completing any rank advancement items while at camp), full rain gear, comfortable walking shoes and water bottle. A daypack for the excursion into D.C. is encouraged.

REGISTRATION: An announcement will be made at each troop meeting. Patrol leaders will also CALL their scouts for sign-up numbers. FINAL FRIDAY is 4 Sept. Signup means you agree to funds being withdrawn from your Scout Account. Final payments will be subtracted from Scout accounts on MONEY Monday, September 14th.

MEDICAL INFORMATION: Current BSA Medical Forms are required. Any special medical information will be collected Friday before departure. Contact Mrs. Wilbert if you have any questions.
