Director’s Summary:

Our district assesses three writing benchmarks. I scheduled our K-8 schools on the third writing benchmark and was assessed on computers, except for 2nd grade students. This is a great opportunity for students to practice on the computer prior to AzMerit assessments. Teachers will score their own student writing. The immediate feedback data would drive instruction and guide interventions as needed for individualized students.

Delivery of AIMS (Arizona’s Instrument to Measure Standards) Science arrived and delivered to each school site. The testing window runs from Mar 13 to Apr 21. AIMS Science is a two-hour assessment. AIMS Science is a continuous paper pencil assessment for our 4th, 8th and 10th grade students.

All schools have updated student rosters into the Test Information Distribution Engine (TIDE). We can continue to add students as they register in our school sites on the AzMERIT TIDE until the first day of testing. Students can be added, but not deleted, therefore, if a student has moved, then another school district can place the student ID and transfer them automatically and quickly to the student’s new school.

The ACT (American College Testing Program) student rosters have been uploaded. Our new high school and I attended an ACT Helios foundation information and training. Once again all our high schools will test online this year. FUSD is partially funded by the Helios Foundation Grant.

I attended four days of training for Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS). This training goal of the LETRS professional development program is to help Special Ed. teachers. Our previous training included Modules 1-3 overview concepts and introductory content and then phonology, phoneme awareness, and the writing system (orthography). Our new session included fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension, Modules 4-6.

I attended an A-F Adhoc Accountability meeting at the State of Education building. This was the last meeting, before recommendations would go to the community meetings and back to the State Board of Education for their final recommendations in April.

I continue to work with Darlene on the Civil Rights Data (CRDC) on building the template for a Synergy rollover. Many areas require input by hand.

I thank you for this wonderful opportunity to serve FUSD.
