POSITION: Overnight WP Support worker

STARTING DATE: December 2017

PAY: £8 - £12 Depending on role

It is important that we, at CHESS believe that people can change, but also realise that some people come from complex backgrounds and as a result skills possessed by our service are utilised to implement engagement and affect positive change in homeless people’s lives, we believe our winter project is a vital instrument in this process and we are very proud of our success in recent years.

You will be building on the successful approach of engaging with single adult individuals who come onto our winter project. We need 2 x senior workers and 2 x assistants who are confident and committed to provide guidance and help for clients who are rough sleeping. You will be involved in providing a safe place to sleep, feeding and security as well as giving advice, linking & referring to appropriate services. The senior workers will be required to work with the rough sleepers in putting together an assessment for each individual, noting key services that could bring positive change for the individual. The position is for prospective staff to work a waking night shift.

This is a challenging, busy and rewarding position that includes managing the expectations of the guests at the CHESS winter project. Ideally you will need to be familiar in working with a hard to reach client group with multiple needs. We are putting together a team, working closely with our Executive director and senior team in delivering this project.

These posts will be offered on a short-term contract (3 months, with a possible extension of another month dependent upon funding).

Senior Workers

Normal Shifts per Week -This role operates on a 2 week rolling rota with post holders working 3 nights on and 4 nights off one week and 4 nights on 3 off the other week. Post holders will work the days as allocated by the rota and may be expected to cover other shifts when necessary.

Hours- 80.5hrs every two week rota pattern Shift Hours- 9:00pm – 8:30am

Pay- £12 per hour

Senior workers should be able to demonstrate experience in the following areas:

●Demonstrable experience of working directly with rough sleepers, homeless people or vulnerable clients (e.g. in outreach, day centres or similar services)

●Good knowledge of voluntary sector services and statutory rights of homeless people

●Ability to deal flexibly with a broad range of people with challenging behaviour

●Striving for equality of opportunity in the context of rough-sleeping and homelessness

●Be keen to learn more about the effects of homelessness.

●Have the ability to collect the required data and write reports

●Write an assessment for the service user showing clear pathways that would support the individual in their life.

●Ability to write reports for the provision on a weekly basis feeding back to the Executive Director.

Assistant Worker

Normal Shifts per Week -This role operates on a 2 week rolling rota with post holders working 3 nights on and 4 nights off one week and 4 nights on 3 off the other week. Post holders will work the days as allocated by the rota and may be expected to cover other shifts when necessary.

Hours- 70hrs every two-week rota pattern.

Normal Shift Hours- 10pm – 8am

Pay- £8 per hour

Second person winter project worker should be able to demonstrate experience in the following areas:

●Good team working ability

•Be keen to learn more about the effects of homelessness

●Ability to deal flexibly with a broad range of people with challenging behaviour

●Good and communication interpersonal skills
