General Overview Session:
(40 minute session plus question and answer period)

Covering the basics on how to navigate ReferenceUSA, along with where we get our data and how we update our records. This session will bring all attendees up to speed on the type of data offered, how to search the database and how to print or download data.

Economic Development:

Learn how to use RefUSAgov to target specific businesses and industries along with getting a nice overall view of the businesses in Montana. Focus on how to target out-of-state businesses that are candidates for recruitment. Learn how to target businesses by industry, employee size, and sales volume. Use the 'Executive Title' section to spotlight target companies and their ownership/upper level executives. We'll cover how to help local businesses establish B2B relationships (a bit of economic gardening) and how to help individuals looking to start a business with site selection, competitive analysis and promoting their business.

Revenue/Attorney General’s Office:

Target businesses or industries to research for possible outstanding taxes. Research companies in regulated industries to check on many levels of compliance. Utilize the mapping feature along with targeting companies in specific employee size ranges for further research and investigation.

Agriculture:

Help identify opportunities for Montana's products outside of the state. Use RefUSAgov database to get a picture of the entire state's manufacturing and other key industries. Utilize our mapping capability for any conservation projects.

Labor:

Help bring together workers with new and established companies. Keep tabs on the overall complexion of Montana businesses and assist out of work citizens to find jobs. Use our database to keep track of occupational and licensed businesses (electrical, cosmetology, plumbing, etc.). Promote services to Montana businesses along with ensuring compliance.

Health/Human Services:

Spotlight specific industries of interest for regulation or promoting services. Analyze at risk population areas and get overview of the types of hazardous industries in those areas along with seeing how many health service offices/organizations are in the area. Use mapping to zero in on high risk areas to check on compliance issues.

Tourism:

Similar to Economic Development. Spotlight businesses to promote in the area or target businesses in the surrounding states which might be interested in touring Montana. Research Montana businesses to partner with. Assist businesses with their marketing programs

Transportation:

Learn to use RefUSAgov to find large employers, assist in corridor analysis and traffic studies. Learn how to find all businesses on a specific street along with all businesses within a range (.1 to 15 miles) of the particular street.

Natural Resources/Game, Fish and Parks:

Track and monitor industries and businesses that are possible polluters or industries that have rigid guidelines to follow for environmental preservation. Perform map-based searches to find all businesses around park areas. Discover where possible locations for new parks would best fit into communities.
