2017 – 2018 “COACH-A-KID” AMERICORPS MEMBER

Mentoring Services Program Coordinator

The AmeriCorps member will recruit, train, and screen adult volunteers and match them one-to-one with students in the “Coach A Kid” program at elementary schools within the Enid Public School system. Responsibilities include—but are not limited to: providing follow-up support once each match is made, making certain the volunteer “coach” shows up for scheduled mentoring sessions, planning training orientations, support sessions, and working in conjunction with the community-based Education Committee of the Human Services Alliance of Greater Enid.

The AmeriCorps member will collect data on number of volunteers recruited, matches made, and number of volunteer hours served. In addition, the AmeriCorps member will work with each school in measuring the outcome for each student in the “Coach A Kid” program (i.e. improved reading scores, attendance, etc.)

While the “Coach a Kid” program is an initiative of the Human Services Alliance of Greater Enid, the AmeriCorps member is an employee of United Way of Enid & Northwest Oklahoma and will demonstrate a commitment to the mission, values, goals, and success of the organization.

·  Hours are generally from 8:30am-5pm, Monday through Thursday; 8:30am-4pm, Friday with occasional presentations and recruitment opportunities outside of these hours; beginning September 15, 2017

·  Full-time AmeriCorps members will receive a living allowance of at least $15,080 and an education award of $5,815 upon completion of 1700 hours of service within one year. (www.americorps.gov.)

Track: Number of volunteers recruited by the Coach-A-Kid program coordinator

Number of volunteers trained (received the Coach-A-Kid Volunteer Mentor Orientation)

Number of volunteers managed on a monthly basis

AmeriCorps Member – Coach-A-Kid Coordinator Position:

·  Promote the Coach-A-Kid Mentor Program within the Enid community and provide presentations to at least six organizations or civic groups during the year.

·  Recruit/Manage 75-100 adult volunteers to be mentors.

·  Submit applications from all volunteers for a background check and screening.

·  Coordinate with the elementary schools, within the Enid Public School District, to collect Student Profile forms and Parent/Guardian Permission forms for each student in the Coach-A-Kid Program.

·  Organize and conduct the Coach-A-Kid Volunteer Mentor Orientation for each volunteer matched with a student.

·  Organize and maintain files for each mentor and each student in the Coach-A-Kid Program.

·  Match approved volunteers with an approved student / mentee.

·  Provide weekly support for the Coach-A-Kid Mentors via email, phone call or other form of communication.

·  Verify attendance for each student on the day of mentoring

·  Create and maintain supplies for the Coach-A-Kid volunteer Resource Kits at each participating elementary school.

·  Work in conjunction with the community-based Human Service Alliance of Greater Enid’s Education Committee, attend scheduled meetings, and provide a report/update on the Coach-A-Kid Mentor Program.

·  Track the number of volunteers recruited, the number of mentor/mentee matches, and the number volunteer hours the mentors serve for the Coach-A-Kid Program.

·  Work with each participating school to measure the outcome for the students who participated in the Coach-A-Kid Mentor Program.

Position Qualifications:

·  Must be a High School graduate or equivalent; some college preferred, but not required

·  Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills

·  Positive attitude and ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds

·  Ability to work with limited supervision and ability to work as a team

·  Must be organized, flexible and able to adjust to changing needs

·  Must be knowledgeable and comfortable with computer systems; particularly proficient in MS Outlook, Word, and Excel

·  Must be able to perform essential duties of the job satisfactorily

·  Highly motivated and mission driven

Position Requirements:

·  Cannot serve as an AmeriCorps member with United Way of Enid & NW Oklahoma and also be employed by the same agency in another role

·  Clearance of background investigation and drug screen

·  Clean driving record and valid driver’s license

·  Use of your own vehicle (mileage reimbursed at Federal rate)

·  Must be able to lift 25-50 lbs.
