Norms of Referencing (Housekeeping)

  • Stay in line with the allocated times for each item in the agenda
  • Submit questions ahead of time to School Council (Especially if research is required to get a response in time)

Principal/VP Update

  • May 23rd 2013 – Official school opening
  • Movie day in March was a success

Safety Council Update

  • Al Jeeraj drafted letter to Councilor Hutton (Ward 6)
  • Gurrinder read the letter to Parent Council – letter to be edited to be worded from the Parent Council

Parent Involvement Committee (PIC)

  • Run by Peel Board – support/enhance parent involvement
  • 3 positions for 2013 academic year
  • April 26th 2013 is deadline for applications

EQAO Preparation/Learning Advantage Book Order

  • Forms were sent home before March break
  • Purchase books by grade – English and French K-8 (English and French)
  • Sara has samples for parents to take a look at
  • EQAO prep books (Grade 3 and 6), parent guides and question booklets
  • Can order online or through the school
  • Letters will go home to parents advising of dates for EQAO assessments

Fundraising

  • Fundraising Goal – Digital Signage for outside the school
  • Backup Plan – Books for the library - If we can’t raise enough money for the signage
  • Funds raised must be spent in the same academic year and cannot be carried over
  • Options –
  • Chocolates
  • Recipes
  • Magazine subscriptions
  • Cookies
  • Other suggestions welcome, please email parent council
  • Will vote on fund raisers at the next meeting in April
  • Sukhi Kanghura to email the board fundraising policy to the committee
  • Ann/Sara to draft the letter for the fund raising idea

Chess Club

  • Letter to go home to parents if parent council approves
  • Open to K-Gr8 children
  • Assessment at first session
  • Regular assessments to ensure child is in the right group
  • Children will master 1 piece before moving to the next piece
  • Instructors hired will vary depending on the number of registration
  • Ratio 1:12
  • Minimum 15 children required to start the program at the school
  • School Council will monitor the children, must have police clearance
  • Logistics to be worked out
  • Gurrinder to modify the form – add company name and request for parent volunteers

7 Habits for Healthy Children

  • Sessions cannot be booked on a Saturday for this academic year, as the school is under warranty
  • Will start in September 2013
  • Apply for a Reaching Out Grant to help facilitate

Upcoming Days:

  • Sibling Picture Day – Friday 22nd March
  • Change Pink Day to Thursday 28th March – Ann to send synervoice email
  • Election Process to begin in April for 2013 – 2014 School Year
  • Review the process/dates etc. in April

Other Issues

  • Lots of movies being watched – Ann/Sara to follow up on this – timing etc.
  • It’s not an educational tool
  • Can these movies be educational?
