  1. Discussion
  2. ATD: Dr. Scroggins was present to field questions about our involvement with ATD. We’re finishing our second year and entering a new cycle. Dr. Scroggins has negotiated a reduced rate. Matt Bourez explained that $83,000.00 was spent on ATD. Michele Hester-Reyes explained that the reality is that Senate is involved in program development and the decision to sign-on with ATD was never brought to us. California is very different from other colleges across the U.S. in that we have shared governance. It was “odd” to participate with schools who didn’t participate in shared governance. California Tomorrow ameliorated some of this a bit. Our coaches thus far have been less than satisfactory, a point conceded on all sides. Stephen Tootle asked what COS will receive/obtain by continuing with ATD. Dr. Scroggins commented that the answer depends on how we use the resources ATD gives us. The conferences are valuable in his opinion, and being involved with ATD raises our value when applying for grants.

A special Senate meeting will be held on May 4 to discuss and vote on our involvement with ATD.

  1. Dr. Scroggins fielded general questions.

Are we restructuring the divisions? How is that happening? IC is considering changes in division structure because of the lack of clerical support. There’s no direction right now. We’ll see what IC comes up with. Restructuring will not happen in the summer when no one is around. There will not be any programs deleted/discontinued during summer.

Are the positions for DE Coordinator and Curriculum Coordinator going to be eliminated? No.

Dr. Scroggins confirmed that if someone proposes the elimination of a program, it will take a full year to complete that process.
