Hello everyone,

Welcome to English. My name is Mrs. Jamie Long. I am starting my sixth year here at Riverside and I am proud to be a rebel!! My conference time this year is 8:00 to 8:50 am.

My goals this year in English:

  • Encourage students to enjoy themselves and learn as much as possible
  • Teach all students to the best of my ability guided by the Arkansas Frameworks
  • Make each student a lifelong reader before he/she leaves the halls of Riverside
  • Pass all students to the next grade level at the end of this year
  • Secure a 100% graduation rate again this year
  • Prepare the 11th grade students for the End of Course test in literacy in March so that they can continue the growth in the proficiency rate

Some supplies that are pretty necessary this year are a 3-ring binder, at least 2 inch, a one subject spiral notebook, 5 subject dividers (we can make these in class with manila folders if we have to) and lots of paper (college or wide ruled). I have some second hand supplies that I will give away first come first serve to those who cannot come up with these items on their own. Just let me know.

Now, there are some things that would be beneficial and convenient if each student had them, and they are post-it notes, highlighters, and a flash drive (this helps store and transport data from computer to computer, especially important for seniors second semester).

This year I am posting a wish list. Only if you feel compelled or have these items lying around not being used do you have to buy or donate them. Some items on the list may seem strange, but I promise I have a plan for using them.

Wish List:

Kleenex or facial tissue

Disinfectant wipes

Air fresheners

Bookshelves

Comfortable small sized furniture

Carpet squares

Floor or table lamps

Plants/flowers (real or artificial)

End/side tables

Books (all kinds appropriate for teens, used or new)

Sincerely,
