Teacher of Food/Resistant Materials

Thank you for expressing an interest in the teaching post we have in the Technology Faculty.

The Faculty is made up of four subject areas, each with its own Head of Department. The subject areas are Resistant Materials, Food Technology – including Catering and Textiles, Graphics including Photography and Child Development. Currently the Faculty consists of 12 teachers and 4 technicians. Some staff teach in more than one area.

Students at this successful school are well motivated and achieve good examination results.

The Faculty offers excellent facilities and the support of a professional team who are friendly, hardworking, well motivated and experienced in the subject areas.

The Design and Technology Faculty is particularly well equipped with modern, purpose built rooms. It consists of four workshops, prep room with a central store and heat treatment area. The Faculty also has a Design Centre and two Graphics rooms, all fitted out with a suite of computers. All workshops have a ‘clean’ design/computer area as well as the practical area. Food Technology occupies a separate building which houses three well equipped Food Technology rooms and computer area, as well as the fifth workshop. The department has two further Child Development rooms. One workshop was completely refurbished to include new CNC router and Laser cutting equipment. The Faculty is well equipped with computers and the use of ICT and CAD/CAM is seen as an integral part of the design process. The school also has well equipped computer rooms for whole class use. Students are encouraged to use ICT whenever possible. Currently all students in year 7 and 8 bring their own devices to school.

Technology is taught for three lessons a week in year 7 and two lesson a week in year 8 and year 9 within a 30 period week. At KS4 option subjects in Technology have 10% of curriculum time.

The Faculty offers a wide range of subject areas at KS4 and KS5 which are very popular with the students. We are one of the most successful and popular faculties within the school. The Faculty exam results have been impressive to date in all subject areas and at all levels. In 2012 we were awarded the prestigious ‘Design Mark’ in recognition of the high quality teaching and learning and outcomes we achieve.

Pupils study Technology subjects in groups of approximately 20.

At KS3 pupils are taught Resistant Materials, Graphics and Food Technology.

Child Care Education

At KS3 all students follow ‘Design & Make‘ courses. A strong emphasis is placed on the design elements and the faculty strives for practical work of the highest quality. Students' projects at KS3 are based around resistant materials, electronics, mechanisms,STEM, graphicsand food technology.

At KS3 student are currently taught in mixed ability classes within two attainment bands. At KS4 and 5 students are taught in mixed ability classes according to their option choices.

The faculty offers a range of extra-curricular opportunities for students in the form of trips, design challenges and clubs. At the end of each academic year the faculty holds the exhibition of ‘Yateley Young Designers’ to showcase students design and practical work. The successful applicant would be expected to contribute to this extended curriculum.

We offer excellent professional development opportunities to any new member of staff within the faculty and beyond.

We are looking for someone who is qualified to teach food technology andresistant materials at KS3 and be able to specialise in one of these areas at KS4. The area of specialism is negotiable and could be fixed to suit the successful applicant. A willingness to teach at Sixth Form level would also be an advantage.

We are looking for someone who is highly motivated, well organised, flexible and enthusiastic. Someone who can work well in a team, engage students and achieve high standards of teaching and learning.
