Lymphoedema Workshop for Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists

This is a HSE funded workshop. The workshop will be held in three different locations. Each workshop is two full days.

Galway / Thursday September 10th and Friday September 11th, 2015 / Merlin Park Hospital / 10 places for OTs, 10 for PTs at each workshop
Cork / Friday 30th October and Saturday October 31st, 2015 / Education Centre, Mercy University Hospital
Dublin / Friday 27th and Saturday 28th November, 2015 / Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown

Who can apply to attend this workshop?

  • OTs and PTs who have already trained in manual lymphatic drainage (Casley Smith Method)
  • OTs or PTs who currently work with clients with lymphoedema
  • ISCP and AOTI members and non-members
  • Preference will be given to therapists who work in acute hospitals, primary care, oncology or palliative care services, with those affected by lymphoedema.

Aims of the Training:

On completion of this two day workshop therapists will be able to;

-Demonstrate knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the lymphatic system and assessment of the client with lymphoedema

-Relate the underpinning theories to the key aspects of Lymphoedema Management for clients with mild to moderate lympoedema, including skin care, exercise, simple lymphatic drainage and compression garments.

-Identify individuals at risk of lymphoedema and be able to implement preventative measures.

Workshop Facilitator:

Lynne Whiteside BSc (Hons), MCSP, SPR qualified from the University of Ulster in 1995. She worked in Royal Victoria Hospital for 6 years as a Senior Oncology Physiotherapist in the Northern Trust. She successfully gained a place on the Macmillan Lymphoedema Education Project Training the Trainers’ programme in 2002. Since then she has been delivering courses both in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Training she has delivered ranges from basic awareness for generalist staff, Undergraduate and post graduate training, through to training for Specialist Lymphoedema Practitioners. In 2008 she took up her current post as the Lymphoedema Clinical Lead in the SouthernTrust, working closely with a wide range of health care professionals to deliver a high quality, seamless service to clients with all types of lymphoid.

Fee

The fee to attend the workshop is 40 euros. Please note that lunch will not be provided.
