TITLE: Experimental College Senior Catalog Editor

CATEGORY: ASUW Enterprises

REPORTS TO: Experimental College Director and Assistant Director

TERM: 33 Weeks

HOURS: 19 Hours/Week

PAY RATE: $9.75/HR

JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Catalog Editor is responsible for the design and production of the Experimental College’s quarterly catalog, as well as related catalog advertising materials (posters, flyers, etc.). The Senior Catalog Editor is also responsible for supervising the Catalog Editor. Responsibilities of the catalog team include processing and reviewing all course information, resolving instructor and course related problems, entering course data on the computer and processing changes and cancellations. The Senior Catalog Editor is responsible for ensuring that all phases of catalog production are completed by the appropriate deadline, including data entry, proofreading, editing, and layout. Workload is particularly heavy during the seventh and eight week prior to printing of the catalog, so applicants must be able to balance requirements of both school and work.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

1.  Develop catalog layout and design using Adobe Creative Suite.

2.  Supervise and train the Catalog Editor.

3.  Verify, enter, proofread, and edit catalog information and other data on computer layout.

4.  Process and review “Returning Instructor Forms (RIFs).”

5.  Coordinate with the Director and publication services in press file management.

6.  Help maintain files necessary for catalogs and course information.

7.  Work closely with the Public Relations team and the Webmaster on advertising and promotional activities to build awareness throughout the University of Washington and the greater Seattle area.

8.  Develop and document standard operating procedures for the catalog process, to ensure smooth transitions as staff changes.

9.  Help with general office functions as needed.

10.  Particiate in experimental College marketing events throughout the quarter.

11.  Perform other duties as assigned by the Director and Assistant Director.

12.  Maintain and inform the ASUW Experimental College Director and Assistant Director of all completed and missed office hours, including any absences due to sickness, personal emergencies or work-related trips.

13.  Meet with SAO adviser as needed and upon request, as well as participating in a quarterly evaluation process.

14.  Attend ASUW mandatory training sessions and staff meetings, including by not limited to the ASUW Fall Orientation and ASUW Personnel meetings.

15.  Review and adhere to conditions of employment as stated in the ASUW Personnel Policy, the signed ASUW Memorandum of Understanding and the Student Employment Handbooks. All actions must also follow the laws and procedures set by ASUW, SAO and the State of Washington.

16.  Responsible for initiating a through transition with newly hired successor to ensure continuity. Prepared documents, such as a transition binder/folder, are recommended.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.  Proficiency with Adobe Indesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.

2.  Experience working with Mac OS X.

3.  Previous design, layout, and copy editing experience.

4.  Must demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility, exercise good judgment, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

5.  Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure.

6.  Excellent problem-solving skills.

7.  Ability to think creatively.

8.  Attention to detail.

9.  Ability to delegate tasks.

10.  Good phone etiquette and ability to communicate with different types of people.

11.  Must be a UW student enrolled in at least 6 undergraduate or 4 graduate credits or on leave as defined by Executive Order 50.
