Purpose
The purpose of the South West England Young Guiders Award is to recognise achievement.
Criteria
- The South West England Young Guiders Award will be given to young guiders aged 18 to 30 who have done something special, something remarkable.
- The something special or remarkable is wide ranging and will depend on the individuals’ circumstances.
It could vary from a young guider setting up a unit in an area that has not got a strong Guiding presence to running an event to raise a large amount of money for charity to raising awareness of specific issues affecting girls and young women to growing guiding by raising awareness about Girlguiding and the opportunities it can offer.
- Applications will be assessed against the aims of SWIYG:
- Support - supporting members of Girlguiding South West England
- Working Together with our Region
- Inform – to encourage effective communication and public relations
- Youth – members between the ages of 18-30 years
- Growing Guiding from within
How to Apply?
- If you would like to nominate a member for the Girlguiding South West England Young Guiders Award or you wish to put yourself forward for the Girlguiding South West England Young Guiders Award, please complete an application form and send it to the Executive Manager marked ‘Confidential’.
- The completed application must be accompanied by a minimum of 2 letters of support.
One of the letters of support should be from the County/Island Commissioner or her Assistant. The County/Island Commissioner or Assistant is also required to endorse the application form.
- Application forms are downloadable from the Region website or can be requested from Jenni or Lucy at the Region office.
- Nominees must be aged between 18 and 30. Applications must be received at least 6 months before the nominee reaches her 30th birthday.
- Nominations will be reviewed in the first instance by SWIYG against the critiera for the Award.
- Recommended nominations will be submitted to the South West England Awards Sub-committee for approval.
- Applications will be considered twice a year – the deadline for receiving completed applications will be mid-May and mid-November.
- Successful applicants will be presented with a certificate and badge. The aim will be for the Chief Commissioner to present the awards annually at a Region event.
