  1. General Information

The Wallace Rose Hill Class of 1977 Memorial Scholarship will be awarded annually to a graduate from Wallace Rose Hill High School in Duplin County based on merit. The student will be able to attend any institution of higher education to pursue their career goal. This scholarship is to help insure that a student of good character who has excelled academically and who plans to further their education after high school is provided recognition and assistance.

The scholarship will be one time only for a value of $1,000. The scholarship recipient must complete the Scholarship Verification form and send copies to the Education Foundation and the attending college. Upon receipt of notification of enrollment by the college or university, the payment will be made directly to the secondary school of education. Payment may be made prior to enrollment only if the college or university requires it.

  1. Application Procedures:
  1. Any graduate from Wallace Rose Hill High School who meets the criteria may make application. Applications for the Wallace Rose Hill Class of 1977 Memorial Scholarship may be obtained from the local high school principal, school counselor, Class of 1977 Memorial Scholarship Committee, or on line at
  1. Completed applications should be submitted to school principals or counselors who will forward them to the Duplin County Schools Director of Support Services at the Board of Education. Application may also be submitted directly to the Director of Support Services at the Board of Education.
  1. An applicant must provide an official copy of their high school transcript.
  1. Character, financial needs, service to the community, and scholarship are factors that shall be considered in scholarship selection.
  1. Two letters of recommendation must accompany the application when it is submitted. A relative should not submit a recommendation.
  1. One letter should be from an individual who is not school connected.
  2. One letter should be from a high school teacher who taught the student.
  1. Selection/Award Procedures:
  1. The Wallace Rose Hill Class of 1977 Memorial Scholarship Committee composed of not less than five individual graduates of Wallace Rose Hill High School (members of the class of 1977 must serve through June, 2017) will review all applications and make recommendations to the Duplin County Education Foundation Board. The Scholarship Committee and/or the Board of Directors reserve the right to conduct personal interviews if needed to come to a final decision regarding awards.
  1. The Wallace Rose Hill Class of 1977 Memorial Scholarship Committee will recommend no more than two candidates to the Duplin County Education Foundation Scholarship Committee.
  1. The Duplin County Education Foundation Scholarship Committee will approve the final determination of scholarship awards.
  1. The Education Foundation Board of Directors will announce the recipient at the annual M. Austin Carter Academic Awards Celebration. A member of the Wallace Rose Hill Class of 1977 Memorial Scholarship Committee will be present to give the award letter to the recipient.
  1. Student Applicants are asked to be present at the celebration.
