A short listing of the evidence that, contrary to the oral tradition, Benjamin Lovelace, brother of Asa and Nathan, remained in NC and did not move to KY and IN.

Ransom does not show up an any other NC census records.
1840 Rutherford Co., NC: Benjamin Lovelace...1 male 50-60, 1 male 5-10, 2 males <5, 1 female 40-50, 1 female 10-15
Benjamin disappears after this census.

Land Record: Rutherford Co. Deed Book 49, page 49
"This deed witnesseth that James Lovelace and his wife Sarah Lovelace, hath this day bargained and sold...to William Scoggin....all of our undivided interest in the real and personal estate belonging to the late Benjamin Lovelace, and Nancy Lovelace late deceased the said interest in the said real and personal estatebeing the one seventh (1/7) part thereof...."
The land is described as being on the waters of Sandy Runn [sic] Creek adjoining land of R. Green, Abednigo Green, and [?] Scoggin, comprising 157 acres more or less. [NOTE: Sandy Run is the ancestral haunts of Asa and Nathan, Benjamin's brothers].
"We covenant to and write said Scoggins that we have a good right to said interest in said real and personal estate--that the same is unincumbered, and that we have a right & to the same in fee simple [?] -- The same James and Sarah Lovelace binds themselves their heirs and assigns, Executors, and administrators to forever warrant and defend the title to the same to the said Scoggin, his heirs and assigns this November 12th 1868.
Witnessed by Martin Walker (Jurat); signed by James and Sarah with their marks, and attested to by James to J. B. Carpenter, Judge of Probate.
