Job Purpose:
To ensure integration of the chosen marine biogeochemistry model into the UK Earth System Model, by testing and describing its performance in stand-alone mode (integrated with the 0.25 degree NEMO ocean model) and in fully coupled mode, and leading on scientific publications in the area.
Key Accountabilities/Primary Responsibilities (6-10 bullet points maximum)
- To evaluate and write papers on the performance of the marine biogeochemistry model
- To ensure full integration of the marine biogeochemistry model into the UK ESM
- To address shortcomings in the model and develop strategies to remedy them.
- As a member of the UKESM core team, the postholder will interact regularly with other members of the core team, and work to achieve project aims as defined by the Head of the UKESM project.
- To present the results of the research at appropriate international meetings.

Internal & External Relationships: (nature & purpose of relationships)
- Principal Investigator (PI): the PDRA will receive guidance from the PI and Popova and New from NERC, and collaborate with the UKESM core team and Head on the integration of the marine BGC model.
- Collaborators at other institutions (NOC, NCAS, Hadley Centre): the PDRA will collaborate with these on different elements of the research as required.
Special Requirements:
- High level of numeracy.
- Expertise in computer programming and running models on high-performance computers
- Experience in working with numerical models of marine biogeochemistry system
- Willingness to travel to national/international meetings.
