Graduate Student Conference/Research Travel Grants
2017-2018

In the 2017-2018 Academic Year, the Center for East Asian Studies will awardresearch travel or conference travel grantsin amounts of up to $800 each, to assist a University of Pennsylvania graduate student to perform research in East Asia, or attend an East Asia-related academic or professional conference. All graduate students whose research relates East Asia are eligible to apply. The grant can be used for expenses including transportation, food, lodging, research equipment, and conference registration fees.

Awards will be made on the basis of the competitively established merit of the proposals. Priority is given to presenters of papers, discussants or chairs of sessions, students interviewing for academic positions, and in exceptional cases, those attending in other capacities. Awards will be decided by the CEAS Executive Committee.

In order to be considered for a grant, please submit a completed application form. Grant recipients will be reimbursed upon submitting all relevant receipts after completing the travel. Please e-mail a completed application form by5 pm, Friday, November 17, 2017 to David Dettmann ().Award notifications will be e-mailedbyearly December. Following the conference, a brief one-page report describing the activity and benefit gained for teaching about East Asia at Penn must be submitted to CEAS.
