FareShare North East receives good quality, in-date surplus food from manufacturers, producers and retail suppliers and redistributes it to over 100 local charities and community groups, including homeless shelters, women’s refuges and breakfast clubs for disadvantaged children. Job Role
To manage operations and ensure the ongoing success of FareShare North East by:
- Ensuring that the warehouse operates efficiently and effectively
- Holding day to day responsibility for operations staff and volunteers
- Holding day to day responsibility for all compliance issues including food hygiene, health and safety and security of the depot and the safety and wellbeing of all depot staff and volunteers
- Working with the North East General Manager to develop new operational/logistic process and procedure and lead on implementation
Job Responsibilities
- To manage daily operational activity in order to deliver FareShare North East’s objective and goals
- Be responsible for managing operational risk within the FareShare business including health and safety and food safety, and to ensure full compliance with the FareShare Food Safety Manual.
- Ensure data is regularly and accurately recorded and that performance monitoring information is provided to the General Manager as required.
- Responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of operational equipment, including vans, fridge and freezer
- Use LEAN management techniques to ensure maximum efficiency in the warehouse and develop a continuous improvement culture in order to ensure that:
Food waste is minimised
Operational costs are optimised
Capacity utilisation is maximised
Standard Operating Procedures are implemented, reviewed and adhered to
Record keeping is complete
All stocks are recorded and fully traceable within the in-house stock management system
- In conjunction with the Customer Service Coordinator, ensure that we manage food intake and food allocation effectively and efficiently– ensuring that community food members receive high quality customer care
- Manage levels of staffing rotas and in conjunction with the volunteer coordinator, volunteer rotas, to ensure adequate cover at all times
- Create and maintain good relations and communications with food suppliers and community food members
- Provide management, direct and support the warehouse staff
- To ensure continuity of delivery of the operation to high standards and to meet operational performance targets and standards within the guidelines of FareShare UK National policies and procedures.
- Manage a warehouse specific budget in line with agreed information provided by the General Manager
- To carry out any other reasonable requests.
