Junior Marine Program Over-view

Since 2006, students enrolled in this yearlong instruction program is designed to prepare middle school students for responsible leadership roles while making them aware of their rights, responsibilities and privileges as American citizens. The course will help prepare middle school students with academic and ethical skills for transition to high school. The curriculum will include strategies to help students improve communication skills, academic achievement, enhance personal discipline and responsibility, promote character development, improve physical fitness, and help develop an “appreciation of teamwork through instruction in drill and ceremonies.” Co-Curricular activities will include community service, parades, leadership camps, drill team competitions, and other outdoor activities.

The curriculum includes strategies that promote the student’s communication skills, re-enforces the enhancement social and ethical values, promote character development and advanced physical fitness, and "appreciation” of teamwork leadership through conducting drill and ceremonies." This course offers strategies for character education not presently available within the middle school level. It promotes self-discipline and personal goal setting. The course will help prepare middle school students for JROTC in high school.

Students enrolled in the yearlong Advanced Drill Team are expected to improve their health and fitness and develop an appreciation for teamwork and fair play through advanced physical fitness and Military Close Order Drill. Like the other Middle School Physical Education courses, Advanced Drill Team focuses on incorporating physical activity into a lifestyle beyond Middle School and the continuation of health and fitness through these individual physical activities. Entry requirements for this major generally include good physical and psychological health and prior Drill Team Knowledge.

GENERAL INFORMATION ON NATIONALS

The NHSDTC/NMSDTC remains the largest and most well-recognized collection of drill & ceremony talent ever assembled in a single weekend. The four primary branches of the military will be sending their finest schools to compete in this unparalleled weekend of military excellence. Over 100,000 cadets, instructors and parents have attended the NHSDTC competition over the years at 5000+ per year. You and/or your company should add yourselves to this illustrious list ofsponsors to help the Junior Marines attend and win this worthwhile competition.

The NHSDTC/NMSDTC competitions are annually spectacular and unlike any other military drill event you will ever attend. Scores and scores of amazing performances were seen by thousands at all levels of competition in all corners of the building. Judges annually commented that there were more than a few schools competing at the Challenge Level that would have easily been able to step into the Masters Level competition! That is a testament to the effort, sacrifice, and intense preparation that teams maintained this year in all levels.

The National High School Drill Team Championships & National Middle School Drill Team Championships remain the most famous Junior ROTC military drill & ceremony competition in the world. This all-service competition takes place every year in Daytona Beach, Florida and Fort Worth, Texas respectively each spring and brings together most of the nation's finest performance military drill units from throughout the United States. It remains a privilege and a pleasure to be associated with this exciting, uplifting military competition.
