Text – Exploring Medical Language, 8th Edition, LaFleur Brooks
On-line class – Communication will be done through your school email account and the website www.makelascience.weebly.com. My email for this class is . Assignments will be turned in through this email account. It is also important for you to utilize the accompanying website of your text, this is where you can learn the correct pronunciation for the terms.
For each chapter you will be given a list of abbreviations and words with this you are expected to do the following:
· Abbreviations – Write a complete sentence for each abbreviation using the abbreviation. Put the meaning of the abbreviation in parenthesis in the sentence. You may use more than one abbreviation in a sentence. These will be included on your exams.
o Example: The pt (patient) may have H2O (water) qid (four times a day).
· Words – You are responsible for the correct pronunciation for each of these words, this will be demonstrated to me by calling and leaving a message to read the words to me, 715-378-2263, ext. 275. You will say the word out loud and then use the word in a complete sentence. Please say the words in the order on the list, either horizontally or vertically. These are recorded as a quiz grade.
Both abbreviations and word parts are items that you cannot learn, test and forget. Medical Terminology is a class that builds on previous knowledge, once you have been introduced to a term you may/will be tested on it again. Terms are the main focus for this class.
Tests – There will be a test for each chapter, once you start the test you must complete it. Quarter Finals will be on abbreviations and word parts.
Both assignments and tests can be turned in early, but not completed late. You will be given the due dates for the entire quarter so you need to plan accordingly with your schedule and other classes.
