Social News…

21st November we supported the Matata Public School's annual gala night. We put on for them a display of our equipment, demonstrated hose work, handed out fire safety information and generally joined in the fun on the night. Well done Matata Public and Matata Bluelight for making this an awesome community event.

18th November we were asked to help empty the swimming pool at the Matata Public School, for cleaning. This was a golden training opportunity as we could use this for a wide range of training opportunities. Yes, we could run drills in establishing suction from the appliance, setting up and ground monitor and draughting with the portable pump, but we were able to do so much more.

15th November 2014 the Matata Volunteer Fire Brigade celebrated its honours night. At such an occasion we invite friends, family, community leaders and members of nearby fire stations to celebrate the brigade members achievements. Last night thekey awards handed out included a 5 Year service medal to QF Tom McGregor, 47 Year bars for CFO Brian Dobson, 27 Year bars for DCFO Gavin Dennis, 15 Year bars for SSP Bonnie Dobson, 15 year bars for SO Malcolm Ward, 13 year bars for SP Norman Semmens and 11 Year bars for QF Rita Martin.
It was a great evening with a lovely spread put on by Rita Coster and whanau, a great DJ and plenty of dancing.

7th November Matata Bluelight Guy Fawkes night Thank you to the Matata Bluelight another great family and community event was run successfully last night in Matata. The Matata volunteer fire brigade made sure there was a safe bonfire and display perimeter and after the judging was completed, got to work lighting the fire and setting off the display. As well as the funded fire works that Bluelight had procured for the event from their generous sponsors, everyone who came along, also brought their own fireworks and gave it to the fire fighters for a safe release. It was a great community evening.

2nd November Matata Volunteer Fire Brigade Raft Race Team A keen group of Matata's junior fire fighters got together this week and built a raft and entered into Matata Bluelight's Annual Raft Race. The team had enormous fun building the raft on Saturday and enjoyed the benefits of their hard work out on the river today. As well as sore arms and plenty of sunshine, they also won a prize in best decorated raft section of the race. Great work team!
